One of my favorites is “Mr. Baseball”. Not the best film ever, but I love how it tries to capture the awkwardness of cross-cultural experiences.

Yeah, Oh boy. The Ump needs to be retrained it seems. I saw that he’s had a very poor start to the season. I don’t like to call out refs, umps, and other officials but sometimes it has to happen.

That was horrendous.
However, the ABS calls are in some cases problematic. Saw a pitch called a strike that was dropping through the strike zone. Yankee tapped his helmet, was overturned to a ball. By 0.1". BUT, the ABS plane is back part of the widest part of the plate while the true strike zone is 3D, so it entered the strike zone at the front of the plate, then was 0.1" ‘out’ by the exit of the strike zone. But I guess that was the agreement to using ABS (2D single plane instead of 3D). Technically, the umpire got it right, but the team can appeal and got the ball by a hair. Maybe they need 2 planes (front and back of the plate), wouldn’t be that hard to add. They can already track this (like in tennis) and they show it in graphics for baseball already…

I completely get why the rest of the league groans on Dodgers getting more talent. But the nature of baseball means the Skubal trade has a 65/35 chance of being futile. Baseball truly is a game of failure, which makes it unpredictable, somewhat interesting.
Example: This weekend the hottest team in baseball (RedSox) is on the road at the team with the best record (Dodgers). Status: the Sox have already won this series, Dodgers trying to avoid being swept today.
In the last two World Series LAD has been very fortunate to win. Vs NYY, the Game 5 meltdown was a freaky spectacle for the ages. Last year really should have been Toronto. Luck? Chance? The occult?
If LAD intends to threepeat, it’s more likely they’ll flame out early because…baseball.
EDIT- to buttress my point, before the trade, the Dodgers had a 35-37% chance of winning it all. After the trade, their chances shot up to 38%-42%.
The real money in baseball is in the throngs of idiots who throw their money at emotional fantasies via gambling.
