America's Pastime

It was nice to see Ohtani give that ball a ride in the first AB. If Flaherty can get them to the setup, and the bats stay live, the Dodgers can close this out tonight and maybe get a little rest before the WS.

Poor guy guy got shelled. I was a little surprised Roberts didn’t pull him sooner.

John Smotlz said earlier in the series hitters need about 3 appearances vs any given pitcher to really get a good bead on how to hit them. Yesterday the Mets really had a bead on Flaherty.

By playing Flaherty longer, Roberts saved ammo for the 1 or 2 games back in LA. Show the least amount possible, regear for Sunday / Monday.

There was a graphic that teams up 3-1 win a seven game series 82% of the time. Two games to win one in front a friendly crowd, I like the chances.

Needed to run some $ up with an extra game or two at home to pay for our roster.

:grinning: LA vs NYC just like the MLB front office dreamed.

My cousin’s husband is a high level attorney at MLB headquarters.
I can only envision him and the staff in the boardroom when it became NY vs LA.

Maybe this is more accurate…

It’s honestly wild we haven’t seen the matchup in so long.

It should be a good series. As always, I want s Freeway Series with the Angels, but at least the Dodgers got there.

The only thing standing in between you and a freeway series is Arte Moreno.

I am surprised they didn’t have a fire sale at the trade deadline. Then again, the most valuable pieces were on the injury shelf at that time; and there really isn’t anyone in the farm system that would be interesting to the other teams.

Oh well, the A’s will be in Vegas soon enough; and who knows, Salt Lake might get a franchise in the NL and boom…a freeway series!

We keep hearing Angels to Nashville but who knows.

I had to laugh at a guy yesterday who asserted that this whole Dodgers Yankees thing was contrived and orchestrated by MLB and FOX for ratings and $$$.

I educated him by asking him when he thought they last met in the WS. He was stumped and shocked when I let him know that he hadn’t been born yet. It was 1981.

Notables for LA: Fernando Valenzuela, Steve Garvey and Ron Cey. For NY: Reggie Jackson, Dave Winfield and Tommy John.

Yeah, it’s been a while!

Wow. Keith Jackson and Howard Cosell on the call.

My Yankees friends are popping off in the chat. Hopefully we get a repeat of 1981. One thing that won’t match 1981 are the broadcast crews:

TV announcers Keith Jackson (in New York)
Al Michaels (in Los Angeles)
Howard Cosell and Jim Palmer

Radio announcers Vin Scully and Sparky Anderson

Keith Jackson calling Game 6 is legendary:

Although I loathe and despise the Doyers, I have nothing but respect for Vin Scully. The absolute GOAT.
His tone, tempo, anecdotes and descriptions are unmatched. Always a pleasant and satisfying listen.

I would be very happy to see the monstrosity called the “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim” taking on a team name that does not make me nauseous.

I have nothing but love in my heart for the San Diego franchise. :innocent:

I would never say this IRL but I always enjoy my time with Padres fans, when it’s the off season.

Thanks LA and BFNKY. Reading this warms my heart. :face_holding_back_tears:

That’s why I have no memory of that WS.

I didn’t buy the family TV… but I was absolutely kindred with the guys who would watch MNF in bars where the cover charge included giving the patron a brick.

Then some time in the 2nd half Howard would say something infuriating that caused the volcano to blow, bricks would be flung with tremendous energy, summarily ending the broadcast in that locale. It wasn’t about who won, it was about defending sanity.

Beer, football, Dandy Don, Gifford, then yelling, broken glass, vacuum tube gasses, swearing,

Group conquest over irritation. God bless America!
