Great pull. Loved it.
So is anyone on here going to talk about current baseball instead of just hating on the Dodgers? Looks like the Phillies are pretty good.
Don’t you mean the Delaware-New Jersey Phillies? ![]()
Yes, they look like a team ready for the World Series.
On the other side of the ledger, seeing Texas beat Houston on the road (as much of a road it is) was fun. I hope the Rangers host “Metal Trash Can Night” in Game 3. ![]()
you’d think after winning 3 World Series Bruce Bochy would have had carte blanche with the San Francisco Giants, but …
Bochy is the best case study for analytics arent everything. I hope he wins it all
Sandy Koufax at his best:
Transistor radios were only allowed at school for one event during the school year, The World Series, and you could only listen during recess. In those days most, if not all, of the world series games were in the daytime. Back in the class room I had my miniature transistor radio (about the size of a pack of matches) hidden in my pocket with the wire coming out the collar of my shirt to the ear piece facing away from Mrs. Wescott. As Sandy Koufax struck out the final Twins batter I could hear some restrained applause coming from neighboring classrooms.
To myself, the most beautiful part of watching MLB is the superb fielding skills displayed by some of the infielders, mostly the third basemen and shortstops. The play of Alec Bohm, the third baseman for the Phillies, who I’ve never seen before until a few days ago, is giving Nolan Arenado (now a third baseman for the Cardinals) a run for his money.

I don’t know if this fits better in Pet Peeves, but I’ll put it here. Over time I’ve learned to accept, but not necessarily like, advertising on many MLB uniforms. The Astros, however, have taken a twist on this that I think is ridiculous. Their sponsor is Oxy. Fine. They have a shoulder patch for Oxy. Fine. But, the patch isn’t always on the same shoulder. It’s on the left shoulder for right handed hitters, and on the right shoulder for left handed hitters, so that it gets more time from the centerfield TV camera. The opposite shoulder has a team patch.
Tacky, tacky, tacky.
I have no idea what they’d do if they had a switch hitter on the roster.
I just realized the D-Backs do this too. Ugh!
they’d probably put it on the helmet over the team logo, or put it on the butt end of the bat.
Pretty good Game 1 of the WS tonight. Adolis Garcia wins it for the Rangers with a homer in the 11th. He’s a good story. Not really cari g who wins makes it nice to just enjoy the game.
It is always great to revisit that great bit of comedy. Two of the best comedy skits of all time.
- Who’s on first (the comedic timing is off the charts great)
- Carlin on baseball and football
Personally I prefer, “Icebox Man,” from Carlin, but that’s just me.
Hippy-Dippy Weatherman:
“Tonight’s forecast is dark, with scattered light in the morning…”
Why do I care what the temperature is at the airport, I don’t live at the airport.
I am not worrying about the long range forecast because of those Russian ICBM’s.
Whew! It’s easy to understand why the owners of the Athletics said adios to Oakland, that place is a failed city. In-N-Out Burger is shutting down their only Oakland restaurant. “Despite taking repeated steps to create safer conditions, our Customers and Associates are regularly victimized by car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies,”
I’m not confused by the move out of Oakland, just the subsequent cluster and seemingly lack of foresight. Almost like, “we’re out of Oakland, now what?”. I’m reminded my my youngest dog and the front door. If he gets out w/o a leash on, he just runs in whatever direction his nose is pointed. With the leash he follows along pretty well to the plan that we have for him. It seems that the A’s owners didn’t have a real plan other than let’s get the hell out of Oakland.
Oakland is a poorly run city, but the voters decided they were not going to fund a new stadium.
