Utes add true PG from Israel. I wonder if portal guys who recently committed have buyers remorse when the team adds a player who will likely take some of the minutes they are looking for.
The 6-2 Israeli guard has had a breakout season for Filou Oostende averaging 18 PPG and 5.9 APG, while shooting 50/40/77 splits. He has been playing professionally for several years and is going to enter the NBA evaluation this spring.
If nothing else, next season’s team should be interesting to watch. I also hope this all means that the men’s team will also be competitive next season.
Fynn Schott the Austrian kid who has been listed as anywhere from 6’8’ -6’10" is not on roster and has not signed. Reason for concern?
Utah needs a defensive presence inside and 6’8" guys are not going to be able to do it. If they are unable to sign a legitimate 6’10"+ big man, this roster will have the same issues as this past years.
So I just read that a 7’4” center from France, who was at Florida last year, is transferring to UC Irvine. The Utes couldn’t use a 7’4” center from France?
Remember Van Koman (think that was his name) during the Larry-K years? Was out of Utah County (American Fork I believe) with nearly Shawn Bradley type height. Height was by far his greatest asset and he never got a lot of minutes, transferring after his freshman year.
Most memorable play was he dunked late in a blowout loss and with an opponent underneath, tried to hang a bit to avoid landing on him but awkwardly fell onto him. Got T’d, Bill Walton was furious at the call and Larry blew his top and got ejected.
Found this Barticle on the men’s team. Seems that there is a plan in place for the upcoming season that isn’t just throwing 5 guys out on the floor and hoping for the best.
Noam Yaacov, Israeli, is said to be a top European pro and NBA prospect. They may even lose him to this draft.
At Wright State, Burch was Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year and First-Team All-Horizon League.
Chatman was number 36 ranked freshman per 247sports three years ago when he committed to Ohio State. Possibly one and done. Has had repeated injuries including ACL and underperformed. Still, last year had a good attitude and contributed as a backup. Looking for a fresh start as a redshirt junior.
Jackson Holcomb was all-WAC first team and all-defense team at UVCU. I heard a rumor he’s Ryan Smith’s nephew. I hope it’s not true.
Jaxon Johnson is an RM and the most highly rated freshman in/state Utah recruited since Brekkott Chapman. Hopefully he turns out better. Was ranked 85th freshman nationally by 247.
Loubaki from France and Trinity Valley JC. Trinity Valley won the National Junior College Athletic Association national championship, and Loubaki was named tournament MVP.
Babacar Fay is the former star big man on Western Kentucky who after he came last year got injured and redshirted. A senior, experienced.
Fynn Schott is supposed to be a strong Austrian pro.
Whole new team. But this year it’s fine. Last year’s team was the wrong group. This team feels more like it has ingredients like former great Utah treams. Now we find out if Jensen can coach college basketball.
