No McDonald’s All Americans, and some foreign players who didn’t have a McDonald’s in their hometown, or their country (for that matter). ![]()
If they all can learn to play team basketball, we will have a chance.
Holcombe and Loubaki are two guys that are absolutely going to wreck havoc on defense.
Ryan Smith just posted that Holcomb is his nephew.
Found this on the website. I’ll remember these two in an otherwise forgettable season. 3.5 GPAs - legit respect.
Holcombe is ranked #130 in ESPNs portal rankings. Only Brown and Dawes are ranked higher in the 40s. The others are not in the top 250 because that is as far as the rankings go.
Seems like the strategy is to get AJ’s system in place - max on the fundamentals and execution - then in years to come recruit greater talent that can fit into the system.
I can live with that.
Is Holcomb a defensive/assist/glue type of a player? His shooting % is no bueno.
He is all of that, and only his 3 point shooting needs work.
Dawes has committed to Kansas
This is the official announcement from the U. Does the omission of Suguturaga indicate he is going on a mission?
SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men’s basketball program has signed 6-7 guard Jackson Holcombe for the 2026-27 campaign under second-year head coach Alex Jensen.
Holcombe, who prepped at Timpanogos High School, comes to Utah after spending the past three years at nearby Utah Valley. He redshirted his first season with the Wolverines before suiting up the last two seasons.
JACKSON HOLCOMBE
Junior – Guard – 6-7
Charleston, S.C.
Timpanogos HS – Utah Valley
- 2026 Lou Hensen Award Finalist after averaging 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.2 steals
- 2026 WAC All-Tournament Team, First-Team All-WAC and WAC All-Defensive Team honoree
- UVU single-season steals record holder with 75 swipes in 2025-26 – which was good for 13th in NCAA
- Served two-year mission in Sacramento, Calif., for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
The Charleston, S.C., native is set to join four other newcomers in Styles Clemmons, Zati Loubaki and return missionaries Jackson Johnson and David Katoa for the 2026-27 season.
I think thats right.
Welcome Taison Chatman, 6’4" guard from Ohio State. 47% from 3. Looks like we got a shooter that we need.
Bona Fide Point Guard. Looks like a great get! TJ Burch transfer from Wright St that was also pursued by St Johns and YBU.
Also got a commitment last night from Weber State big man Malek Gomma. 6’8, 245, senior, averaged 8 points and 7 boards last year.
I got a deeper appreciation for how a basketball team is constructed and how Jensen wants to build the program. It was tough as a fan, but it was clear there was intention, not just bad coaching like in the Archibald era.
With a year of evaluation & building a network of contacts, are they more confident they’re getting players who fit the plan?
Seems that way… but I’m also stone cold sober about how competitive the league is.
I think we still need a legitimate center with experience and a young combo guard.
The headline for the article about Burch says “point guard”, but the article says “combo guard”
.
If Burch, Holcome and Loubaki are as good as advertised on defense, next year’s team could be fun to watch.
Plus the kid from Weber is going to be an big upgrade to any interior defense we had this year.
