2025 Runnin Utes offseason thread

frustrating loss but credit to the players and coaches for their effort.

I’m puzzled why we accepted, but it is what it is I guess

Silver lining: our postseason lasted later than tds hahaha

I don’t understand why Dawes didn’t start all season or why Little was put on the shelf.

Wild. Looking at the field of the Crown I saw no reason we couldn’t win this whole dang thing.

Instead, bounced in the first round. Crazy.

Please, for the love of all that’s good, let Alex turn this crap fest around.

I hope to see some incoming transfer news soon. I see that Catchings from TDS is leaving. Any chance of getting him? I’m just asking; I don’t know if he would be a good fit or if Utah would have a shot. But the program needs better players than Mongolian Mike and Lovering, et al.

NIL. Winning team splits 300k, 100k for second, and third and fourth each get 50k to split.

I predict some of the guys in the portal will be back - especially hoping Dawes is back.

Also predict AJ will have whoever we have playing respectably by February. (Majerus’s teams often started slowly, but by January they were systematically dismantling opponents.)

This first year may be rough, depending on what Coach Chill and NIL can do.

I predict that the roster will look similar to K’s first year, unless we get some serious NIL influx.

Oh, yikes! That was a horrendous year: 6-25.

Great stats. We’ll see how his game translates from a low-level conference to the Big 12.

Florida’s best player this season came from Iona, and wasn’t much recruited as a freshman.

Dawes is back. No?

Yes. Heard he took his name out of the portal last week.

Every scholarship player from last season has either graduated or at least explored the portal outside of the injured Ibi Traore. The roster is down to KD, Terrance Brown, Ibi Traore, and Alvin Jackson III (if he honors his commitment and we honor our commitment to him).

Not panicking yet at all, but starting to get a little antsy about the lack of news. Hopefully, new developments this week.

Seems like Alex is still several weeks from becoming the coach full-time, which can’t help.

My hunch is we’ll have several of the portal testers. And they’ll play better than we’ve seen.

Alex was the guy everyone wanted and I suspect he will do a good job. However, we are again starting from scratch. If NIL is $5mil, I don’t expect we can get a much better roster then the one we had this year. We shall see.

I’ve seen this sentiment around. I’m not worried about it. AJ isn’t stupid. He’s not going to jam a stick through the spokes of his own front tire. He has his GM and he has his first assistant.

Great leaders know how to delegate and follow through. I have NO DOUBT Alex is letting his two guys do the heavy lifting and when he needs to come in and make a decision or seal a deal he makes the time to do it. If he and the university thought this was going to set the program on the wrong path, they wouldn’t be doing it.

IF the AJ era fails, it won’t be because of this.

As we build up our NIL cache, it will be interesting to see how Alex, coming from the NBA, allocates money for the #5 position. May be the lowest priority.
