Yep it’s probably not hurting anything in the grand scheme. Just think it’ll be a plus to have him on board.
Is Zach Keller in the portal—not sure it matters, just curious
Eric Daniels, son of Donnie, is the next coach on Jensen’s staff. If youve ever watched him coach, he sticks out because of how passionate he is. 10 years of experience between weber, usu and uvu.
He is!
I feel old now. When I was in high school, I went to a Rick Majerus camp. Some of Majerus’ assistants, including Donnie Daniels, were there too. Donnie brought Eric along. At the time, he was like 8 or something.
Another assistant, this one with international ties!

A full complement of assistant coaches comes just in time, as it looks like we will have quite a few visitors next week!
2nd commit, 1st signee.
Sounds like 4 prospects on campus, 1 of which is commit Terrence Brown.
Id be excited about the potential of any of these guys!
Looks like Wahlin is headed to Clemson…Im just glad its not our friends to the south.
Was a decent player to come off of the bench and was local.
I’m kinda surprised, honestly. I really thought he’d stay and flourish with AJ. Oh well.
It would be interesting to know what kind of push the new coaching staff made with the 24-25 players. From KD’s quick removal from the portal, I am guessing they made a big push to keep him.
Wahlin is another guy I hoped the staff could retain. Although Clemson lost to McNeese State in the first round of the NCAA’s, they were 27-7 overall and 18-2 in the ACC. They have a 6’10 center named Carter Welling from Corner Canyon.
I know there is a lot of time remaining to put the roster together, but I think it is legitimate to ask whether the 2024/25 roster will be better than the 25/26 roster.
I expect a meager first year, like LK’s first season…but part of me wants to see what AJ can do with less impressive talent.
Majerus’ first (full) year was a lot of fun to watch. Compared to the Archibald years where we could win by 20 or lose by 20, Rick’s clinical display of hoops coaching prowess was impressive.
I used to joke that RM could probably win games with 4 nuns and a custodian. It sure seemed that way, compared to what we were used to.
The game has changed a lot and coaches are better - everything is better - but I’m hoping AJ shows a similar ability to develop overachievers, like Larry Cain.
The Maji’s greatest skill was analyzing opponents and coming up with schemes to neutralize their best players. Many opposing star players had career low performances against the Utes and teams often had shooting percentages that were among their lowest of the season.
Which lead to many opponent comments such as if we only shot what we normally do, we would have won. Which was annoying.
Sorry, but if next season is like Larry K’s first season (6-25), I’m not sure I want to watch. Next year’s Big 12 will be better than the 2011–12 PAC-12 too, so let’s hope Al can assemble some decent talent and coach them up. I’m not expecting a whole lot, a single-digit-winning season would be painful.
This is spot on. There were few occasions that I can remember where an opponent’s star player just killed Utah. I recall New Mexico had a very player in the late 90s, Kenny Thomas. Utah always played him well and frustrated him like crazy. Same goes for Reggie Slater of Wyoming and a couple of good UTEP players like Marlon Maxey.
The player I think of from New Mexico that was neutralized was Clayton Shields of that same era. He was a 3-pt shooting specialist and really just from two certain spots, he would make almost all of them, force him off those comfy spots and he was done.
