Do we have some deep bench guys that could just go punch a few of these guys in the face? In order: Saunders, Dybantsa, Davis.
This is when Utah could use a Sean Mooney or Brandon Sluga
Buster Matheny. He’d do it with a big smile.
I kind of thought the wheels would come off with five to go but I missed by a factor of two.
Thankfully Utah will never have to play against AJ again. Well, I guess maybe in the conference tournament. Good for TDS to have him. Hope their dweeby fans are thanking Ryan Smith and Crumbl.
Neither of those guys paid for AJ.
Ryan Smith’s involvement is very limited due to NBA rules.
The crumbl ceo just likes attention
I knew someone would jump on that. Someone paid for him. And pre-NIL he wouldn’t know BYU existed.
The official line seems to be that he was paid by funds from BYU’s NIL collective and shoe and apparel deals (Nike?)
This team can shoot. Defense seems to be the shortcoming.
Late take on Provo game: The elephant in the room is NIL, I’ll skip that topic.
- team looks good, playing like a team. Brown & McHenry are adjusting to much bigger, longer talent.
- We knew our guards were good, but Keanu Dawes is the big surprise. You can see his confidence grow every game. Now he has matched up with a lotto pick and done well.
- On the guards, McHenry is the best shooter + is a playmaker, Brown can do everything, Abbey is a natural point.
Alex signalled he needs them to not sag, not give up, play hard - all the time.
It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season goes.
Fans need to get to the Hunty and support this team. Very deserving of more support.
Question here, I ask because I haven’t seen a game or watched stat sheet overly close. How deep is the bench? My impression is that it is not too deep, therefore the starters may run out of gas as the season goes.
The rotation is pretty tight, which is what you want for big games. But like you said, we’re in the middle of the season.
We have the 3 guard rotation, the other 5th year SR James Okwonko (sp?) 6-8 / 240has helped a lot inside with defense & rebounding. He stuffed Dybantsa at the rim. TR FR Kendyl Sanders wasn’t supposed to play, but is a threat from 3 in the corners and another 6-8/230 body with long arms. The JC Transfer Hayes gets eaten alive inside. If he can’t put on 30 lbs, he should transfer down.
Seydou Traore has been playing better, is a nice reasonably athetic wing, does a lot of things well enough to not be a massive liability… but isn’t an NBA guy, streaky shooter, at best. In the B12, when we go up against that level of talent, it shows.
Ibi Traore (not related, I think Traore is like “Jones” in Mali / Senegal) has made appearances, but is either lost on the details or is hurt again. A German 3 point bomber Patrick got hurt, hasn’t been seen in awhile.
Injuries are a part of sports, it’s unclear if we would be competitive with all the guys who’ve been injured.
Let’s not forget that we lost the kid from Spain for who knows how long after only getting maybe six minutes out of him. Those six minutes looked pretty promising, and it may have made a difference in spreading out minutes with better talent on the floor.
I am actually pleasantly surprised. We have no inside presence whatsoever and every opposing team just poiunds us inside.
Nonetheless, we are more competitive than I thought we would be. Alex has them playing well considering the limitations. Hopefully a year of recruitng/transfers will rectify a lot of these problems. Knock on wood, .
The record isn’t glossy, but this team is actually much better than I thought it would be. Utah was right there with TDS in game one and went toe to toe with them for 27 minutes in Provo.
I was standing near Terrence Brown at a football game. He’s not 6-3, more like 6-1, which means McHenry is maybe 6-0. They’re pretty remarkable in how they play and how they’ve adjusted to bigger competition.
Baylor had a guard last year, VJ Edgecombe, who apparently is really doing well as a rookie in the league. Love our guards, but trying to defend a big & skilled guard like Edgecomb is gonna be rough.
Don’t care, I’m proud of how the Utes have fought and gotten better. I need to start catching some games, would be happy to get loud for this team.
Alex can definitely coach.
Don’t know where to put this, but Kevin Young has the worst hairdo in the western hemisphere.
It looks like somebody shoved his head in a toilet and flushed.
The bounces that byu got in football continues in basketball.
And that revs up 19,000 screaming girls.
Edit: Arizona wins it by 3 after being up in double digits with only 1:20 to go.
Good grief, I thought UA was going to have an epic choke. Some very favorable calls for BYU. Shocking. The $8 million BYU player goes like 6-125 from the floor. Nice.
