2023 WBB Discussion

In the last year, the PAC12 is loaded and could have 4 or more teams hosting the first weekend.

Colorado was a huge win and Utes now need at least a split in LA to stay in running to be one of the hosts.

Roberts will have the team ready for tonite.

From your mouth to God’s ear.

I’m certainly not confident about either of the LA game. Our shooting has to be ā€œonā€ for us to win. Just not sure which shooters will show up.

Down 14, 25-39, at the half…ouch. I’m not surprised, though.

Now down 24. Wow. Getting embarrassed on national TV.

Well, hopefully the beating that Iowa took provided some amelioration…more like alleviation. At least to the pollsters, anyway.

Not much positive to take away from a game that was probably the worst game I have ever seen them play. Though a lot of that is on the defense that UCLA prepared. I assume that UCLA came into the game determined not to let the Utes put up big points. Successful, I would say.

Some good things first…

Nice to see Johnson come back into the game. She is simply a warrior… and that is about it.

Now to negative stuff…

Every player on the team missed at least one easy layup, including Pili.

I understand that UCLA worked hard to take away the 3ball but there were many times that I saw a good shooter open and they didn’t shoot. Multiple times for McQueen, Wilke and Pili. Nice to see Young at least hit a couple.

When your down by twenty going into the 4th quarter what are we doing working the ball around to get an inside shot or drive. I would have told the team, don’t take any shot that isn’t a three, and only play those who can shoot the three.

Ross will be left open everytime she is at the 3pt line, and she has to resist the urge to shoot.

So, that’s it, hopefully, they saved some energy to defend Watkins.

I think Roberts is awesome. We, of course, need to do everything we can to keep her at Utah. However, she made a mistake not getting an inside player bigger than Pili that she can put on the floor. It’s a glaring weakness on this team.

Yup, needed at least one more capable 4/5. Not sure what she saw in a couple of those transfers on the bench.

Whoa…Arizona just upset Stanford on the road.

It was very clear in this game that Crispe isn’t a PAC12 level player.

The first time I saw her on the floor, I was like…huh?

IMO, we don’t necessarily have to have +6’4" players, but at least a couple of more capable +6’2" players would spell JJ and Pili. There’s also no continuity.

The ones we do have are more like low D1 or D2 players. And our 6’8" player, well, can’t seem contribute at all.

With the offense she runs it is hard to have a player outside of the post who cannot shoot the 3. Although Pili can shoot the 3, her strength is the post. The two taller players from a year ago who played behind Pili both transferred out due to lack of playing time. Rees (6’4")has found a nice nitch at Oregon St. and Peyton McFarland (6’4") is getting a lot of minutes at Houston. Hard to recruit a talented player when she can see from Rees and McFarland that she will likely only get around 10 minutes per game.

She did sign a 6’2" player from Spain who is injured and unable to play this year. * Played club ball with the Canterbury Lions

  • In 2018 helped the team to an 8th place finish at the National Championship (Best 36 Teams from all of Spain)
  • Earned a 3rd place finish in the Spain National Championship in 2020
  • Played club with ALBA Berlin
  • Made it to the TOP 4 of Germany, and won the German Championship U18

USC has been completely out of control on defense for long stretches of this game. These officials are terrible, they’re all over the place.
