The defense! Run DMC. I was home in ABQ over Christmas break and was talking to my new girlfriend after 2 dates (now wife) while either listening online on the radio or gamecast. Some good memories.
Rick was such a genius. So many visiting star players had career worst games as he was so good at designing games plans to neutralize the opposing teamâs weapons.
Only to have those other teams fans, say things like, we would have fun if we had just hit shots. We knew better.
I think that was his first priority when game planning: take away their best scorer.
Rick was so good at stopping or slowing the best player on the other team. I remember Utah frustrating Kenny Thomas of UNM multiple games. Same thing happened against the Wyoming teams of the early 90s. The Cowboys had a guy named Reginald Slater. He was a beast down low, a very good college player. Utah always held him down.
Utahâs rare losses under Rick were hardly ever due to poor defense. A loss usually came because the team simply couldnât hit a shot, which often happened in the Pit at UNM and at Utah St for some reason.
Welp. Guess Alabama hoops canât have nice things.
Oregon Losing last night might throw a wrinkle but Iâm pretty sure they are going to be favored in their last 4 games @wazzu, @ Ore St, Cal and Stanford. If they win those 4 puts them at 13 Wins If USC Oregon and Utah are all tied Utah still finishes 5th seed (Oregon wins 3 ways tiebreaker because they beat utah twice and USC the one time they played). Utah loses tiebreaker to USC due to USC beating the #1 team in the conference (unless one of Utahâs wins is UCLA)
Got a tall order to get past tonightâŚbeating Arizona in McKale Center. Hopefully the kids will be coached up enough to show our win at home earlier this season wasnât a WTF loss for Arizona. A win tonight would definitely be a warning shot to the rest of the PAC 12 that we want our run in the CCT to last more than a game.
GO UTES!!!
BEAT THE WILDCATS AND THE âZONA ZOO.
I love our Utes, but a win at Arizona isnât happening. Utah hasnât beaten the Wildcats on the road since 1987. Arizona will be primed for revenge. I hope Utah can keep it respectable.
We need to hope Utah can steal one at ASU and get by USC and/or Colorado. Sorry to sound negatively; just being realistic. But of course, I am happy to be wrong.
Anything can happen, but with Gabe still out of the line up, will take the best effort from the rest of the team to compete tonight. Need to limit turnovers and opponent second chances, and hope a few of our players have great shooting nights.
Honestly if we only get 1 win at McKale this weekend I hope itâs tomorrow night. Would be great for the men to get a win tonight but the women have a special season going.
Is anyone streaming the game tonight? I donât have Pac-12 networks
Just heard Riley say the Utes shot 32% from the floor tonight. It sounds like a true beat-down.
That went just as I feared but expected. I was hoping for a little more of a competitive game. I wonder if Utah will ever win at McKale.
Yup. Donât have the horses.
Turnovers werenât horrible, and did OK rebounding, but inconsistent shooting is perhaps our biggest weakness and losing our most reliable shooter hurts a lot. Hopefully a few players can make shots the next few games.
When Marco Anthony is forced to take those set shot, launch from the shoulder threes, you know weâve got a problem.
What burns me (sorta, not really) is seeing Pelle playing there. Just so much what if in that situation.
The weird post game comment came from an AZ player (I think it was Kriisa) who said he was happy for Luc Kryskowiak scoring because Utah had screwed over his family. Seriously? I like LK as a person but the program had become a joke. I doubt I would still be a season ticket holder if he were still the coach.
If his family feels that way Iâm sure theyâll be happy to return the paychecks they are still collecting from the school that screwed them over.
