I had planned to do my stuff between each of the matches had they been spaced out. The bigger problem is, I now have to do split-screen. I’m not smart enough to do split-screen.
this is one of the rare occasions having a man around is a bonus

That, and reaching things on the top shelf.
True
This explains it well
Worth noting that with the best 8 (of 12) 3rd place teams advancing, it can be a potential advantage for the teams playing later in this round as they will know the records of 3rd place teams who have finished the round. Ironically Algeria and Austria will play each other (along with Argentina and Jordan) in the very last set of games.
The US defense is really bad. I get that it’s the B-team today, but still…yikes.
Just standing around watching dudes run by them into space and generally being totally disorganized.
Too new and untested! Like climate change and solar energy
No real impact on what comes next, but that’s a brutal way to lose.
So, the players with the yellow cards who sat out a good portion of the match are good to go for the next one, correct?
Norway vs France should be a good one tomorrow!
Yellow cards reset after the group play and again after the quarterfinals.
Lots of people chastising the Yanks but it was a mostly second string squad and Turkey is a respectable team out of the strongest confederation..
Thought we had some great momentum and destined to take the lead again when Pulisic game in but then came an untimely hydration break.
Maybe after 60+ shots and zero goals in the first 2 games, Turkey was due.
Thank you
Totally had them on their heels and that ad break let them reset. Very frustrating. Their keeper also had a ridiculous save in the upper 90 off Pusilic that didn’t get nearly enough replays.
I think the US has enough offensive talent to possibly win a knockout game, but their defense is awful. That’s going to catch up with them against better teams. Pretty sure Netherlands would score about a dozen on the US right now.
Also, I know the game was meaningless, but losing on the equivalent of a Hail Mary on the final play is still incredibly deflating.
this^^
B-team defense is awful. The lazy passes back to goalie are predictable and would yield goal opportunities as Miles Robinson did in the friendly just before WC started (can’t remember which game off hand).
The starting defense is much better and merely sketchy rather than awful. Chris Richards is legit and Ream’s quickness has not looked nearly as bad as I feared.
As long as we don’t lose players to injury or cards, I think the defense could hold up against quality opposition. As for the Netherlands, the list of countries that have knocked them out of WC consists entirely of premium programs. I agree that the US would be significant underdogs- but that is part of the fun!
Speaking of the US keeper, the dude playing last night was incredibly tentative. I counted at least three times where the ball was in the air inside the six and he just stood on his line instead of challenging for it. Was not very impressed with him.
I think he’s the backup, no? I don’t pay much attention to the MNT until the World Cup starts, tbh.
Been a lot of quick goals in the World Cup. I was busy with something and tuned into today’s matches when they were both 7 minutes in, and both Senegal and France each had already scored goals.
I had a busy morning. I laid on the sofa with a heavy blanket and then the match was over. I was so looking forward to watching Norway and France duke it out. Sounds like France was a force…or Norway was sleep walking.
Norway was already through, so they rested 9 starters.
Yes he started last WC but lost his starting position to Freese. Freese is pretty good defensively and perhaps very good defending penalty kicks, but is poor on the ball. Any pass back to him needs to give him a lot of space to work with. It is so obvious that the other teams will be rushing these backward passes. Fortunately our defensive starters are good enough with the ball to generally move forward rather than pass back to the goalie under duress.
Two weeks ago, I didn’t know Cape Verde existed.
Tonight, I found myself jumping up screaming at the TV cheering for them in the second half.
What an incredible story.
