Spain is clearly the better team. They are dominating possession. I belive Argentina has one shot. The Argentina goalie has saved the day multiple times.

I still like Messi, but the rest of that Argentina team (except for their keeper) can suck it.
The vastly better team won today. Spain’s ball control and movement was absolutely beautiful to watch.

I watched more futbol in the past few weeks than I have my entire life.
The consolation game was like the 2015 Vegas Bowl. Today was intense.
FIFA has a long way to go on their anti-corruption campaign, but until then I’d like to nominate Greg for the FIFA Prize in Economics.

We had important guests coming today, in the middle of the match, and I knew we would not be free to see what happened or enjoy any of it in realtime, So I ignored Utefans, and any other news or social media and we watched in after the fact.
As I was setting up streaming of the game, I was hit with the eventual result, but was kind enough not to tell my wife.
In the end it was what I was hoping for, a Spanish win. It was also a completely dominant performance by Spain and an exciting, clinical soccer performance.
Edit to say: I just went back and rewatched a lot of the match and Spain’s ball movement was unbelievable. It’s often thought of as an overused cliché, but their constant shifting from one triangle to another and the resulting easy, quick fluid ball movement that results was world class.
A joy to watch.
I do not ever recall watching a match where one team put up 20 shots, 12 on goal, and only finally scored on their last, while their opponent, put up only two shots, none on goal.
And finally, the Argentine keeper, had a handful of spectacular saves among his record World Cup Final save total of 11, but there were also several of those stops which were mediocre Spanish shots directly into Martínez’s midriff or easier to handle long-range shots.
It’s rare to see a team dominate as Spain did, for 120+ minutes, and end the match with a 1-0 win. But it’s sort of how soccer often seems, a lot of the unexpected.
