To be fair she played the least amount of minutes of any player (7)
Good point. I should have said post/interior player.
I was feeling this way all game long. MSU stuck around, when it should have been much easier. Wilke has been mostly cold, McQueen has also been on a bit of hot then cold. Even Kneepkens missed some open ones.
If Toure canât scare anybody as an inside threat to score, Kneepkens will continue to be double teamed (as she was in the St Joes game), and it will be tough for her to find her shot.
To me, itâs interesting in that I donât think our team handles pressing very well - we are a team thatâs full of guards or perimeter players. I thought MSU did a fantastic job of causing chaos. Our interior defense canât seem to handle any opponents who are semi-quick.
Thereâs a new article about Petersen in the Trib.
One quote, from his father, really struck me
âWe thought Lynne was going to stay here forever,â Craig told The Salt Lake Tribune. âHeâs so comfortable here. He loves it. Why would you want to move even if youâre going to be a head coach someplace else? When youâre so comfortable, and the administration backs them up, why leave?â
I see a lot of social media griping about Harlan, but this is certainly not the first time Iâve seen staff and their families make this statement.
WBB falls to Mississippi State. Live by the 3, die by the 3. This season so far, we die against decent/good teams. Next up, #3 ranked Notre Dame.
Unfortunately the game was on a streaming service I never heard of the required a subscription. Figured I would wait for the rundown. Thanks for posting.
Sounds like a big of MSU was able to get an o-board and put it back up. Sounds like an interior issue.
Definitely an interior issue and give MSU credit for that. But, if we stick to shooting 3âs as a strength, then, well, gotta hit them. Below .300 wonât cut it, especially if we are an outside-in team.
Utes up 61-50 over 3rd ranked Notre Dame in the 4th
Just got settled into my hotel room for tonight (driving back from the game last night) and pulled up the play by play page. Hidalgo is an all-american, seems shutting her down has been the key so far. 11 point lead with 3 mins left. Two ND players have now fouled out. Damn, I wish I could be watching this.
Utes up 11 with the ball. 1 minute left
And the Utes win by 11 over Notre Dame!!
Maty Wilke hit a big 3 pointer and other than a couple of turnovers on the ND press, they made their free throws. Kneepkens finishes with 16 and McQueen, Johnson and Wilke (!) finish with 15 each.
You would think the Utes shot lights out at 3 pt land, but not really, 37%, but they were 46% from 2 and 81% on FT.
WowâŚas Iâm on the road , have yet to watch the game.
Nice 60 point win for the Utes last night in the Delta Center against Utah State. McQueen got her shooting mojo back and Toure had a nice game.
Kneepkens has been cold shooting, but Wilke is now hot.
I donât know if there is a stat kept for offensive charging fouls drawn, but I am absolutely convinced that Jenna Johnson lead the nation.
I wonder what is going on with Utah St. You would certainly think a MWC team could at least avoid losing this big against a P4 team.
ManâŚJenna Johnson, thus far, seems to have really regressed. Besides being in a shooting slump, just doesnât seem to possess much fundamentals. Horrible passing angles, bad shot selections, and a bit of defensive liability because of slow feet.
PhewâŚgot lucky today with Princeton missing FT at the end.
Princeton went on a real heater basically hitting everything there in most of the 4th. I am as shocked as anyone that Melker misses two free throws after everything else she shot was draining.
I thought our offense was disorganized a lot of the 4th, and that led to turnovers. Johnson certainly didnât have a great day, and throwing that ball against the backboard late in the game while surrounded by three Tigers and hoping for a foul was not what you want.
Negatives aside, the team did show much more gumption in these last two close games they have played and found a way to win, unlike vs Northwestern and Mississippi State. Maybe they have learned from those.
Ross once again stayed aggressive scoring 9 pts off the bench and contributing 7 rebounds. She has really taken big strides since her tough freshamn year last year.
Toure had her best game this year scoring 15 points and only missing about 4 layups, which is a reduction from the usual.
They used Wilkie as the main backup PG this game and that in of itself lead to a few turnovers, but she had a very good shooting game scoring 14 points.
Princeton is a good team and that was a good win for the Utes. Next up, Washington on Saturday.
Darn it âŚ3s are again not falling. Sigh
Pulled it out against Washington 67-57.
Utes were down 50-40 heading into the 4th qtr and outscored UW 27-7 to win by 10.
