Women's Basketball 2025-2026

At least someone who has been here a bit is staying. She is a good player, and I hope that the staff can teach her up to a great player.

No surprise on my side about this. Good luck to wherever she ends up.

A side note, I read yesterday that over 1,000 women’s bb players are in the portal. I read that the total is something close to 4 players per D1 team.

I read that within 24 hours of the approximately 6,000 D 1 men almost 1/2 were in portal

Remember that scene in The Graduate where the husband, consumed with the stock market and his own portfolio gives Dustin Hoffmann free advice: “One word: Plastics…

Now it’s “Analytics…

It’s a weird world where it’s a combination of networking and personal observation, along with data. There’s no way to wrap your mind around 3000 potential players.

So… it’s both. This is where Wes Wilcox earns his paycheck.

Reese Ross to Baylor. Something tells me this wont be the last transfer we will see end up in the big 12.

Wonder if this is the Kneepken effect – go elsewhere for a post-season potential – vs it’s simply the coach’s issue.

The Athletic has Kneepkens going #13 in the WNBA draft to Atlanta.

Kneepken talked to media about her career

It was very obvious Lynne’s abrupt departure was a catalyst for a lot of the departures and issues. She said they had no idea she was leaving and were shocked, and it played a big role in her decision to transfer

Hjelmstad to TCU. I really think there is a terrific player there that for whatever reason didnt pan out here. I hate it that we are going to have a front row seat for it.

Isn’t it interesting both went to better teams. Yes, I don’t care that Utah beat TCU once last year.

You know, it does stink a bit to have these players go elsewhere to schools that the Utes are trying to overtake in the XII. Maybe the moves are because of Petersen, maybe the chance to win bigger, and maybe they are getting a better payday. It likely is a combination of all three things.

Hjelmsted, I didn’t understand how she couldn’t get her shot going at all, and as such, warmed the bench for the last half of the season. TCU is living in the portal every year and still is able to maintain their top of the conference team. I feel absolutely confident that she will be 100% better player next year, and not necessarily because she is not with Petersen, but she is just a better player than she showed here.

Ross… The coach at Baylor seems to understand how to use and coach forwards. It will stink when I predict she will have her best game against the Utes.

Another BigXII school. Ugh.

Have no clue what Gavin is doing. In the end, only record counts. Right now, WBB isn’t doing so hot. As for next year, the team will be super young – like that of last year – irrespective of the highly ranked incoming freshmen class. We’ll see if Gavin can pick up any good transfers. He hasn’t given me any good reasons to really support him – we’ll see.

It appears that the men and women are almost in the same boat. As of today, each has 4 holdovers from this past season. The men are probably a little ahead because they have a larger incoming signing class. The women will need 7-8 from the portal and the men 5-6.

Lani White drafted by the Minnesota Lynx with the 45th and final pick!

The WNBA just doesnt have a ton of second and third round picks on rosters but as the league expands, maybe there is room for a really good shooter with some plus athleticism. I hope she makes it!
