Sneed to the portal. That was the one i was hoping not to see as I think she has a chance to be a building block.
All of this negative news makes me wonder more about Petersen. Ross, Hjelmstad, Foster, Sneed!!
Hjelmstad and Sneed (two of our four from last year). Sneed got a lot of playing time and the team was always better with her on the floor. I am not sure why Hjelmstad’s minutes waned so much in the latter part of the year. Yes, she was in a shooting slump, but she has good size and a good shot that would play.
So, losing White, Wilke, and possibly Sneed, Ross, Foster, and Hjelmstad is a lot to lose. That is six rotation players, with none more important than Ross and Sneed.
As said up the thread… Hit that portal hard baby. Look what ASU and TCU both did for them in hitting the portal hard.
This tells me we have a coaching problem.
They gave Peterson a chance, but don’t feel this is the right place.
Maybe. It will be interesting to see where they land and what the staff can bring in.
I don’t know how I felt about LA as a player. She was better than Walker in distributing the ball, but not much of a scoring threat from outside. Obviously, she could improve that and I was hoping she would stay.
In other WBB news, Iowa State had had 8 players announce they will enter the portal when it opens on April 7.
There will surely be plenty of players for the program to evaluate and go get. Does the WBB program have a GM the way the mens team does to help conduct the evaluation?
For giggles, I went to see what the WBIT bracket looks like. Well, unsurprisingly, EKU lost by 30(!!) to Harvard in their next game where they had to play on the road. Harvard lost to Wisconsin in the WBIT version of the Elite Eight.
Even more depressing is that the Y’ners played three straight home games and only now are playing in a neutral sight game against Kansas in the final four, will likely beat Kansas and play for the title against either Columbia(!) or Wisconsin.
Seeing that just makes me more sports mad that the Utes had to go to EKU to play. What is our athletic department doing?
A very disappointing season for sure.
They ended up beating Kansas when their two excellent freshman hit back-to-back threes very late in the 4th quarter. Ugh. With Gibb getting better and Cummard bringing in a nice Frosh class, it looks like he can recruit pretty well. Uh oh for us, especially if we can’t settle our roster down a bit and keep our recruits.
They will play Columbia(!) who waxed Wisconsin by 17. Ugh again.
Update, Columbia waxed BYU (forget about the 4th quarter run BYU had, they were done at the end of the 3q.
Also, Audi Crooks at Iowa State has entered the portal. I am sure there is no way she gets the money from Utah she wants. I am sure she is looking to go to SoCarolina, LSU, Michigan… that type of school.
Also, heard an analysis about whether UCLA could beat UConn. They analyst leaned UConn but acknowledged that UCLA overcame their one big weakness in outside shooting (without mentioning Kneepkens). If those two meet in the championship, it should be an amazing game.
Edited to add that Crooks is the 10th member of the team to enter the portal. Things could be worse for us.
Was it that we chose not to host? (thought we had a one seed)
Yes, they were the #1 seed, and no, I think it was a scheduling conflict, but I haven’t found anything that described what the conflict was.
Is Geno going to be gone from UConn?
He kind of pulled a Woody Hayes on Friday, without the actual punching part.
He apologized the next day. Or at least there was a statement to the media that was purportedly from him. I was really glad that South Carolina beat him.
I was glad UCLA won, too.
I don’t think UCLA’s coach will be on the AFLAC commercials, so I’m counting this as a technical “win”.
His actions were reprehensible. Good grief, the guy has won a million games and has been to the Final Four every year since time began. Tip your hat to the opponent, take the loss, and move on.
I am really happy for Gianna to be on that team that won. She looked very happy playing the role she played on that team. Yes, I was disappointed she didn’t stay, but, I can still be happy for her.
I read on the Athletic today that Tennessee has lost all but one player to the portal. That one player is an incoming freshman. Lost 4 to graduation and everybody else bailed.
It could be a lot worse.
Chyra announced yesterday on instagram that she is returning.
Walker to the portal.
