How ironic would it have been to have the UTES, the original BCS busters, be the P5 team giving a G5 team a great opportunity.
I also think of how the UTES opened up the door for G5 programs. Memphis has an invite to the Dance with one loss. That would have been inconceivable in 2004, when the UTES had to have a perfect record–and even then it wasn’t a given they would get the Fiesta Bowl.
A lot has changed in 15 years.
