In the spirit of the other “What I’m doing” threads it occurs to me that while we have discussed great books in the past, perhaps a thread for current reading only might fly.
So saying. I am re-reading A Prayer for Owen Meany after a 40 year hiatus of John Irving’s works. His writing really appealed to me as a young man, and now, as an elder man I am enjoying his prose once again from a different perspective. I’m not sure why I stopped after reading a lot of his earlier stories: Pretty much as soon as they came out. but now I want to visit the ones I missed. I will say, that he certainly has a format and repeats certain themes, however like Vonnegut, I just love the way he describes characters and dialogue, so I don’t mind so much. Though he is as famous and successful as most modern authors, not everyone loves the guy. Kind of like licorice… He tends to invoke a strong reaction on both ends of the spectrum.
