Utes preseason 2025

The days are getting shorter, but hotter. We’re less than 3 weeks from the evenings starting to steadily cool off, according to my late grandmother (BS Mathematics, University of Utah 1926).

This video starts my metamorphis, from partially interested baseball fan to controlled adrenaline, hyper focused Ute FB junkie.

Dampier and Fano are early culprits. No mea culpa, dammit.

Whats this about?
Whats the confusion?

Good. They got us going 7-5. I like it when we are rated low pre-season.

Ficklin was the State of Oklahoma 2023 offensive player of the year. Wilson looks and sounds like a different person. Kudos to him for showing back up! Giving respect to Lud, he seems pretty excited about what Beck’s offense brings to the table, with a nod to Dampier.

Utes announced UCLA game start @ 9:00 PM Pacific!
Seriously, What have we done to deserve a season opener at 9PM?
At least that means for everyone in Thailand, it will be tomorrow @ 07:45 AM so, we can exploit new and exiting markets in Bangkok while everyone on the East coast chortles about Bama and Clemson.

Well, they couldn’t have TDS play at such a time. The game wouldn’t end until church time, and missing the sabbath is a no no.

Everywhere I’ve seen is 9pm MT (8pm Pacific). Still late.

Anyone old like me remember the WAC days when Utah would play at Hawaii at a starting time in SLC of 11:00 p.m.? I vividly recall sitting up until 2:30 in the morning listening to Bill Marcroft call the game on the radio. Good times.

As the B1G and SEC ratchet up the pressure, don’t be surprised if the BIG 12 isn’t relegated to the Ocho Only…eeeerrrr… ESPN+.

That’s ok, some of us still know how to se a radio. Some of us even have internet radio.:wink:

I guess what I’m saying is I won’t be paying ESPN or FOX Sports for a subscription. Also, staying up much past 10 pm isn’t something I do anymore. When I do, it takes me a couple of days to get things back to normal.

With the internet, the excuses for not televising games at a normal hour is actually shrinking. Hell, even BSPN is looking to operate a full streaming option…a day late and a dollar short to Netflix, Amazon, and Apple.

It’s kind of a big “so what” if your game is televised outside of the major TV channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX) given the broadcast quality and value. The thing that blows goats is the fact someone got it in their head these games could be commoditized to the Nth degree, and people would simply pay to be inundated by commercials AND to watch games in the middle of the night. The only time your team should ever be playing in the middle of the night is if they are playing at Hawaii.

Now I need my morning nap before I go scream at the neighbor kids to get off my lawn.

I was young enough to do that then. Now bedtime is 9pm :grimacing:

There’s a paywall, so I cant read the article but maybe a go fund me start-up or even some of the NIL $ can go to supporting these guys. Not even 20 years from his career.

I’m glad the team was snubbed. If they are as good as they can be, they get to invite the press, after the season is over, to eat their crow. Ketchup will be graciously provided.

We aren’t uncivilized you know.

I want to say yes, the team was snubbed. At the same time, what do we really know about this team? We expect the defense to be good to maybe great. The offense? There’s an awful lot of turnover, especially in key areas (QB, OC, RB, WR).

I do hope that the team uses this as motivation, but only time will tell.

IMO I think the team has 8 or 9 wins this season, with one of our proverbial wtf losses in there somewhere.

Player leadership is crucial in how we respond. Dampier appears to be a natural leader + we have two veteran OL. I expect some wtf plays out of Dampier, for sure, P4 is not MWC.

On defense, the 2 guys sent to conference media day are leaders - Barton & Snowden… and we’re not even talking about Tao Johnson, who IMO is critical. Luther Elliss has a LOT of bodies to work with up front + the 2 starters are really good. Reason to be optimistic, though it may take time for the rotation to gel.

Last year was what it was. This year we’ll see a team with a chip on its shoulder, IMO.
