I think I just saw a post on tiktok about the athletic director at Baylor being put under investigation, you have to wonder if that will service any form of distraction right before the game. That kind of emotional bombshell and turmoil can definitely mess with a coach’s head at the very least, if not the players as well.
He yelled at a TE for a gold shirt under his uniform or something like that. They say the leave is personal and not related, but does seem like a reprimand type situation. With his leave as AD, he was dropped from the CFP committee and Harlan actually took his spot (he was on the committee before for 1 year in 2023). So, distraction for Baylor and also yielding a nice anxiety attack from BYU …
Okay am I understanding this correctly? Its theoretically an easier path for us to get to the playoffs if we win out but don’t participate in the conference championship because a loss there would drop us out but 10 wins and skipping it is almost a lock?
Realizing we always want to “win the conference” but..we also want to be in the playoffs.
Which would you choose and is my understanding correct?
Either way we need to spank Baylor and get some payback for the damage they did last year.
IF we can win these last three games in convincing fashion but the stars don’t line up for us to get to the CCG, but we get an at large berth for the CFP, I would take that, in a second.
It would be like an unintentional BYE in the playoffs. One less game = more time to heal up, less exposure to key injuries.
Let’s say BYU finds a way to the CCG, a rematch vs Tech and gets demolished again. The door opens up for us. (It would be pretty damn funny if somebody paid for a billboard going into Utah County with a big photo of Harlan congratulating the Cougars on a fine season.)
I’ll prolly catch heat for this, but I think I would rather the Utes win the conference - due to last years collapse - and also to be a team that has won every conference it was in. I think that helps recruiting talent more than making it to the CFG with little chance of beating Ohio State or some of the other top tier program. Is it wrong to suggest we are a team deserving of the top 25 but certainly not in the top 5 this year?
At any rate. I hope the boys play well today and win out the rest of the season.
Go UTES!!!
This would be the best of several potential paths.
We need some help, but this would be my first option, for sure. If we had a rematch with TTech in Dallas it might be a very different matchup & possibly a different outcome. Their D is unquestionably great, but we’ve learned the ball security lesson. Their QB situation is way different than it was. I know our lines would be extremely motivated to play better.
I just hate having to depend on others to get there. It’s happened before in the PAC… so if it happens, great.
With all of the gambling scandals goin on, I’m beginning to look at games differently. Texas A&m ,an 18.5 favorite is losing to a 3-5 South Carolina by 27 at half. Heisman contender Marcel Reed is playing like Ralph Reed.
browse/search youtube.. every once ina while I get someone foreign streaming it. That or 8 variants of NCAA football fake playing it… a clever ruse to get views form some people LOL. Failing that the watchalongs some people do, without showing the screen can be interesting if you cant stayed glued to the conputer monitor.
