Flashbacks to Houston and BYU

There is the flag. Wtf

They just took 2 minutes to decide to throw that flag!

But I predicted it

Bummer

The score makes it look like a close game. It wasn’t.

But Bottari may give us a chance on Friday and it would feel good to see the season end on a win.

Well we almost had the ugly win.

I strongly disagree with that grounding call at the end.

I am kind of ashamed of myself for actually believing Utah would pull that out. I guess they made it interesting in a game where it should not have been close.

didnt we just hurt byu in the conference title game with that loss?

silver lining

Yeah, there’s that. But Utah also just tied its longest-ever in-season losing streak.

Save one drive, the offense was abysmal as ever. I think Botarri surprised ISU on the TD drive. Other than that, it was pathetic. And Scalley’s defense has now given up three game-winning drives. Not impressive.

You know what’s funny? A lot of people are bagging on Wilson, but oddly, he was 8 of 8 passing.

It’s only a lesson if people actually learn.

Whitt sort of added fuel to that fire by constantly bringing up that another realignment is just around the corner.

That’s likely a true statement but didnt sit well with several Big XII schools.

He also got a very gratuitous gator-roll after down that might be more than a game ending play. Cheap shot. Watch the clip

it sure serms like the offense plays harder for Rose and Bottari and with more emotion. There’s been hints that some players didnt agree with Wilson getting the 2nd spot.

Who knows?

Just got home from the Iowa St. game, and have to say I had fun, enjoyed the ALMOST ugly win, did not expect to stay the entire game, but did not end up leaving a minute early.

I just suffered a Ute season like no other for me:

I’ve been attending Ute Football games somewhat regularly since I was in 7th grade in 1968, have had season tickets since sometime around 1990, generally don’t miss any games, and usually attend 2 or 3 away/bowl games each year…

This year, due to family priorities, and health etc. I have only been to 3 games, Az., BYU, and tonight. In a virtual lifetime of watching Ute Football, I don’t believe I have ever suffered a season where I did not watch the Utes win a single game live.

I sincerely hope this never happens again - I am just NOT used to this :frowning:

On the plus side, there was a couple in front of us who’s son is an offensive lineman for the Utes, who I think may have had his first start this evening. Watching the two of them cheer for every single play win or lose, never give up, and and fire the whole section up was wonderful.

Go UTES!

MIsc points:

  • Heard on the radio Utah hosted Iowa State in 1975. I was actually at that game. I was in grade school. I remember thinking “what exactly is a cyclone?”

  • Really proud of the team for the way they’ve continued to fight. The fans stuck in there with them. A big part of the energy tonight was the reaction to the refereeing.

  • Whitt talked about going after perhaps 40 players in the portal. He mentioned it’s estimated Oregon is spending about $30M on NIL. Those two points together make me wonder if we have some serious backers who are ready to really invest.

  • I would be deeply disappointed if the team sagged, if they buckled, started getting blown out. But they didn’t. That’s the primary thing I’ll remember about this year.

It’s conceivable that not one QB currently on the roster will be back next year. There have got to be two or three experienced guys Utah can bring in. And Utah needs three or four solid (or hopefully better than solid) WRs, not guys like the transfers from Washington or Syracuse (what happened to him?), but guys that can play and want to play. Need a couple of experienced RBs, maybe one bruiser and one speedster.

The defense was disappointing tonight. Need help there too.

While I have no response to how our defense collapses at the end of these games and lets the other team drive down the field and score game winning points over and over again…

I wanna ask those of you who may know more about that intentional grounding call this game.

Sure looked to me that there was an easy to identify receiver “in the area”. Listening to the commentators seemed like spin saying he threw it too high…and that it was obvious he was throwing it away…

Isn’t it literally obvious every time a QB throws it away and isn’t throwing high the whole point? That’s why having anyone in the area has always been the exceedingly loose standard.

Maybe the replay I didnt see validates the call but there was no flag, then after a pause a discussion then a late flag and Im flummoxed as to how that was the call at this point. Again I may have lacked a good replay and angle to understand.

To anticipate some response.

No im not saying the refs determined the game. Our D chocking on the last drive did and us having no O most of the game did.

Also ISU is a pretty good team so props to them.

But it does feel like we have insulted some refs mom’s or something so they are happy to help pile on and throw a few extra torches on our already burning ship.
