What I loved about the game was how the gals did not collapse at the end when Stanford made a run. They kept their poise, stayed tough, made key steals and key free throws. Good for them!
They’ve been nails in the other games I’ve seen, particularly that win-for-the-ages at Eugene.
Fundamentally sound, good shooters, great passing, tons of grit.
Was touch and go. Kept going low into double teams and instead of kicking it out, got it blocked or stolen. Eventually recognized it and started kicking it out for the three. We have so many players that can consistently hit the three. Stanford is big. Really big. Outrebounded us by a wide margin. Won’t beat them going inside into double teams. Our defense is nails.
Most fun game for me since PVD hit the game winning three vs UCLA. (Missed the AZ game earlier this season)
Yup. Thought the players forced deep into the paint too much early on – SU’s bigs were having their lunch. Pili and JJ had a lot of 12-ft opportunities, but rarely took them.
The atmosphere was fantastic. We had a couple of nail-biter/WTF games against UA and UCLA. Glad we got a couple of turnovers and then sealed the game with FT.
They play a fun style of ball. Everyone passes, shoots and plays D. Am interesting stat is that they are 1st in PAC in assists, but have no players on in top 15
I am so jealous of all you being able to go to or see the game. I was quite busy and missed the whole thing and only was able to see the highlights on Youtube.
Thanks for all the great talk about the game.
Well, the important thing is that that WON both “nail bitter” games against UCLA and Arizona because had they not, they wouldn’t be conference champions.
Thanks. If they didn’t win, then those games wouldn’t be called nail-betters.
ESPN named Lynne Roberts coach of the week (for ALL of NCAA division 1, not just PAC12)
Well deserved recognition
Utah WBB is AP#3 this week.
They just got a one seed that if they can win their way to the finals…could give them another matchup with Stanford.
What would be hilarious is if the PAC 12 closed out the finals.
Stanford beat Arizona by a point in the title game a few years back.
Lynne Roberts Pac-12 Coach of the year!
Alissa Pili Pac-12 Player of the year!
I wondered if Pili would win player of the year. The Stanford players had great seasons.
Roberts not winning would have been the biggest upset of the season. I would say that winning a coaching award named after John Wooden is a pretty dang big honor.
Fantastic article about the team.
The case could be made for Roberts as National Coach of the Year. Utah was projected as an “also ran” team at the beginning of the season. Tying for the regular season with ‘Furd - a perennial NCAA tournament team, is certainly noteworthy.
FWIW, I don’t believe anyone had them as anything other than a possible “bubble team.” It is possible they will be a two seed in the big dance.
They definitely set a bar for the men’s team.
I think a 2 seed is a lock, with a possibility of a 1, depending on what happens in the conference tournaments.
