Also I’d like to note that, as the lead scout for the Utes for this game, Chris Burgess has, once again, let down 9 million Mormons.
Pure savage lol
The 90s were such a crazy, fun time to be a Ute hoops fan.
Whether it was BYU chasing Utah through the conference schedule as the lower prominence travel partner and coming up a little short, or Utah simply beating BYU, it was great entertainment listening to Rick wax poetic post-game about just about everything except basketball…
… while Roger Reid stewed in his juices. I swear you could hear the boiling pot over the radio.
Majerus was inadvertently helping much of a fanbase and sections of a tightly wound culture see humor in themselves, while Reid was just weird and hyper-competitive after the game was long over, throwing in subtle, but completely transparent digs.
Rick was the funny man basketball genius, and Roger played a clumsy stooge trying to get onto the same stage.
The Majerus-envy and one-sided desperate competition led to Reid’s comment about Burgess letting down millions of Mormons by choosing Duke.
Really?
Are we going to see a return of the 90s in the Utah-BYU basketball rivalry?
A full Hunty last night, and next year’s schedule suggest maybe so. The conference competition will be fierce, but inside the State of Utah a wrestling match on the court will be underway.
Agreed. I’d love to see Donny Daniels go up to the hill and work him out.
Not sure what is wrong with that. Sounds like my group in red in the Marriott Center in the late 90s. And last night Having those loud blue fans behind us humbled and silenced at the end made the victory a bit sweeter for me.
Whats the pulse on CB today?
Probably epic global warming meltdown.
They should be complaining that Robinson doesn’t start & only plays 27 minutes—he is by far their best player. He should play 37 minutes.
I was curious what the vibe would be like on Cougarboard this morning. It was the typical “we just beat ourselves” that we always see, but I was a bit surprised at their new smacktalk point (that I saw repeated multiple times):
“Just remind Utah that they haven’t beat BYU in football in over 1,000 days.”
Um…ok. Yes, BYU won the single game that has been played between the two teams in that time. Apparently the previous 9 losses in a row have now been completely memory holed.
Oh, and the reason there has only been one game is because Utah (rightfully) decided that a home and home with Florida was far more valuable than playing BYU.
Zoobs are so weird.
One of my all time favorite rivalry poems of his, “I’m still king of the f-ing mountain!”
Grasping at straws is something they are quite good at.
That’s how college age kids look now. We’re getting old.
Except their athletes, who all look like 37-year old men with three teenaged kids.
Actually when it comes to Byu, a significant portion of their students look like this… athletes or not.
Their only lead was at 3-2. I can understand their could have beens but c’mon
This is what I thought as well. They are very sour because we owned them.
They probably had general admission seats and wanted the best seats possible.
Sometimes fans just need to have the insight and the spine to say “Well, we got outplayed.” That’s hard for them.
Spines, and logic, are hard to find these days.
“Johns, you keep a strong spine.”
