Utah/Oregon

Just looked it up and I bought plane tickets and hotel reservations on June 16th for Vegas. Decided to hold on after SDSU because why not?! Bought CCG tickets last week. Didn’t want to jinx anything, but YESSS!

I’m in a good kind of shock. Utah’s best game of the season. Virtually perfect. Unfrickinbelieveable.

I like being around happy people. Congratulations on beating the Nike meth lab.

FTFO, anyway.

Couple of tidbits.

52,000+ attendance. A record.

Oregon averaged 220+ rushing yards per game. They got 63 tonight.

The beatdown was comprehensive. We routed them in every statistical category.

Loved the comment from the announcer about The punt return:

“Covey! Highly effective punt return for a touchdown!”

Other than 3 receptions to Covey there were no receptions by the wide receivers. If Oregon focuses on the tight ends in the CCG it should open up the receivers.

Covey already said we "angered"them, and if we play them again, Oregon will be a different team.

Didn’t hear Thibodeaux’s name called much tonight. Not sure if the Utes game planned for him, or the o line just did a helluva job…or both.

I heard that Bam Olaseni was assigned to push him around all game. Having 6’8”, 360 lbs bodying you all night could inhibit one’s performance.

OL and TEs did a great job with kavion. They really focused on taking him out of the game. Double teams TE rubs to let OT get control. Running away from him. Inside option to hold him. They really worked it to contain him.

They moved him around a lot but everyone was paying attention. Bam did very well against him…may have made some money.

Unfortunately all of the things we did for this game, will be game planned against for what I expect to the rematch in two weeks for the CCG. I hope we held something back…

The level of beatdown, will either:

  1. have them psyched out for the rematch (not likely)
  2. have them rabidly motivated for the rematch (much more likely)

All of this without any trickeration!

That was what was most impressive to me. Nothing fluky or tricky. No crazy turnover stats. Just lined up and beat then with mostly long drives and good defense. Ran the ball well, even when they knew it was coming. Held their running game, which was their strength, in check.

The recording of the game shows the TEs at least chipping him time and again. Sometimes the RBs too.

Whittingham had a game plan to try to neutralize Oregon’s defensive end star, Kayvon Thibodeaux.

“We had some schemes to nudge him and chip him,” he said. “The tight ends and running backs and tackles did an outstanding job. Bam Olaseni has really become a dominant force at the left tackle position.”

Nike meth lab, damn!!! That was a great laugh to start the day.

Bill Riley’s call of the Covey runback. Watch Covey immediately seeing the opportunity and taking off to the left, then directing his blockers.
