I like this one. I thought the lack of a power RB was pretty glaring at the spring game.

My crimson club level came up for upgrading seats and although I am not upgrading, I have made it a habit to check to see what is available. In all prior years, there have been very few seats available and no with more than a couple seats together. This year there are probably 500-1000 seats available and several in groups of four or greater.
I think the combination of increased cost, a losing season, conference opponents we are not familiar with or interested enough in, NIL and portal gone wild are driving the reduced interest. As soon as secondary market seats become less expensive than season tickets, there will be even more seats available.

I have said to my ticket rep every year that they were pricing people out. They more or less scoffed at that, bragging about their renewal rates. I told them that golden gooses wouldn’t keep laying those eggs forever. It looks like maybe it has started.

Seems we may have a new D-lineman. I don’t know a thing about him, except he played at LSU.

Those endless FOUR minute TV time outs aren’t helping either.

SPEAKING OF CRIMSON CLUB.. I was having major problems with the app I had on my old phone, and when I got my new one I didnt port it over.. But no that I need to reinstall, I cant remember what it was called… but I do see something that seems like the old one was replaced? I need to check my Crinson Club stuff occasionally, and want my discouont certification for the bookstore/RedZone etc.

What’s the current Crinson Club access app called?

Dampier highlights at UNM last year vs some good competition, particularly U of A and Auburn.

Highlights are highlights, but a glimpse of Beck’s offense of ā€˜24, plus a few plays of the WR transfer Davis and RB Rogers, who has really been pressing Parker in camp.

In an interview, Dampier confessed he’ll run run less than last year, but his arm and his instincts on the throw game look pretty good.

That was a lot of fun. Thank you for posting it!

It will be interesting to see how or whether the coaches can help him limit the interceptions without limiting his creativity.

I expect him to throw some pics. I think it is going to be part of his game. How will our coaches cope with that? That is going to be a big question for me.

I’m keeping my expectations low and looking forward to enjoying the season. He is a dynamic athlete and is going to have some big moments.

I watched some of the Auburn game last year. I recall being pretty impressed by UNM’s offense. The highlights make me hopeful for this season if Dampier has cleaned up his game.

UNM had a really bad defense, were playing from behind a lot last year, but it’s evident he has a pretty good arm.

I would think with our OL and a number of players who can be effective in the run game - Parker / Rogers / other RBs / Smith Snowden / Nate Johnson - Beck will try to give Dampier lower risk opportunities in the throw game.

The veteran OL and really good OTs should translate into a lot of different things to be explored. It’s long, but here’s a really interesting interview with Dampier:

Dishin’ With Devon - Utah Utes QB Devon Dampier

Obvious leadership, squats 595(!). Admits he’s really 5-11 / 209. He’s very bullish on his WRs, without getting into specifics. That’s a leader’s answer and it’s preseason, but have to think some of them will emerge. He seems to have the personality to pull some of those guys through whatever doubts they might have.

He said it’s been back and forth with the D in camp - great sign.

His second year with Beck + Harding’s OL + a LOT of weapons + that highlight video… I’m getting into game week mode. If we get by UCLA the next two games are ones we shouldn’t have to show much offense in, then Texas Tech at RES.

It only gets harder from there, but it seems like there are a lot of ways this offense could evolve.

Vibes were high with Spencer Fano after practice on Monday

Synopsis: Spencer Fano is nuts.

He & Caleb Lomu are both really good, they have very positive things to say about the other OL and everyone in the Top 10 on OL.

But the hijinks from Fano are some quality work. Apparently, if the O is driving and things are going well, he will start singing… ie, a song. On this day it was Lady Gaga tune. He & Lomu have a good time with the good natured insults, too.

Being interviewed, Fano asked the interviewer, speaking of Lomu: ā€œIs he still there? Caleb sucksā€, to which Lomu responded ā€œI learned from himā€.

This is so much fun.

I love the mental image of seeing Fano break out into ā€œAbracadabraā€ complete with bad attempt at the video choreography.

From ESPN:

Trending up: Utah’s offense

Last season, Utah averaged just 23.6 points per game (good for 102nd nationally) and posted a 39.5 Total QBR (113th) while cycling through four different starting quarterbacks.

On Saturday, its offense looked far more dynamic in a 43-10 win at UCLA in which New Mexico transfer Devon Dampier threw for 206 yards, ran for 87 and tallied a total of three touchdowns. It was just Utah’s second time cracking 40 points versus a power-conference opponent since the start of the 2023 season.

And somewhere along a dark and desolate highway, former Utah quarterback Cam Rising shed a single tear and nodded his head with pride. Then he hopped back into his van, rolled down the windows and turned his attention once again to the hard work of traveling the country solving mysteries with his pet Great Dane.
