Can you imagine the fun we’d have if Utah ever recruited a player named Charles Lamb?
I just gave a scholarship to a sheep!!
I think our basketball team needs Sidney Friedman.
If he can defend then put him on the court!
Does he still have eligibility?
He can always sue the NCAA to give him some.
The football program’s press conference today about the status of the program, how transfer portal recruiting has gone, and so forth.
Solid interview with Whit and Morgan, no surprise there. Haven’t heard Jason Beck before, but he seems to have a good handle on things.
I remember he was in the shadow of John Beck as a player, but while John has made a mark as an offseason QB coach, Jason has quietly risen as a coach in programs, which is a lot more complex, a lot more responsibility.
He seems like a grinder, fits right in with how we do things. Guys don’t get into coaching and move up unless they really love it.
Adapting the scheme to the personnel is a smart way to deal with so much turnover in the Portal era. I’m interested to see how Beck evolves with a jump up in level of competition. He was at Syracuse, so it’s not like a leap from G5. The offensive analysts are critical, maybe we’ll get another Dennis Erickson kind of advisor?
Who knows, but the flexibility he shows in his basic approach of adapting to the skills of his players is a really good sign, IMO. If there can be evolution within a season, as well, this could be a huge get.
A little weird to have a presser at this date, but well worth the watch.
Not a surprise here, but you have to wonder if Cam is still on the sideline next season…as a grad assistant. He has the smarts to do it.
Is Junior hitting the portal?
NFL draft.
Junior Tafuna is a class act. He deserves everything good that happens to him.
Junior was a senior
I’m fighting the urge to be either pessimistic or realistic, and am allowing myself to get kind of excited as I look at this schedule. I may need some help from Uteaholics Anonymous. Will one of you be my sponsor?
The QB position really sank us, last year. You see it on NFL teams, too - if they have a revolving door at QB, the head coach will be looking for another job at the end of the season.
But the rest of the team did pretty well, IMO, considering the glaring issue at QB.
It’s going to be a big jump up for Jason Beck and Devon Dampier, but they have experience together, and the other pieces on offense are generally solid.
I don’t do predictions - way too many things can go wrong - but I do think the Utes can get back to a bowl game.
At least we have a road trip to SoCal this season.
I’m not exactly happy about that. At least it’s UCLA and not Southern Cal. I know that UCLA is just the little dog dancing around Spike as they walk down the street.
Three of our toughest opponents at home, ASU, KSU and Texas Tech. That’s good, right?
It didn’t seem to matter last season, but who knows?
I’ll take it!
My guess, is that the team starts 3-0, then it’s a crap shoot with a bowl game at the end.
