Utah Football 2024

No question we are now the hunted.

But there is reason to think we’ll always be hungry - that is our core identity, why we pass on talented recruits who don’t fit the culture. (We don’t know how well Scalley will carry the culture forward, but that’s not this season’s storyline.)

Ute fans of 2024 go back to different eras, but everyone today shared and savored the PAC era.

Tomorrow we turn the page, new foes, new destinations, new logo… knowing the landscape is not done changing.

This season has challenges directly in front of us, but in the seismic CFB world, it’s also an audition…like we’ve had before.

Do what the players and coaches do - embrace the moment.

@sweetgrass Yes, you can. I do it all the time. For example, I watched the Ute women’s soccer four days after the game. I will be watching last nights soccer game against USU today. The system has a search feature, just enter Utah Utes and all the games for replay and future will show up.

Yes, I’d preferred the PAC stayed together. It didn’t, so let’s make the best of the Big XII. There is no sense in dwelling on coulda/woulda/shoulda from the PAC era.

Well stated CCU. Nailed it. Let’s go Utes!

At least I didn’t have to buy new banners to get ready for today. If we learned anything from this calamity, it’s don’t buy merch with a conference logo on it.

Yeah. Good call.

I am trying to get a little excited about supporting the BigXII this year though(why not, it can only help my mental state?), with the exception of that one team. WV has a big game against Penn State this weekend, and kicking the B1G in the nuts would be nice.

Here we go!

Take note of the search feature. I tried to find Utah Gonzaga awhile ago. Selected BigXII saw a number of soccer games (tape and future games) but not our game. Once I searched I could find it though.

Overall my first ESPN+ broadcast was pretty good, with the exception of the broadcasters. They were worse than bad. It wasnt the quality of the PAC12 network, but it was better than expected.

I watched a little of the pregame and the one announcer mentioned something along the lines that Utah is now joining the big boys in the Big XII and if they were in the Big XII prior to this year they would have made the college football final four. I honestly believe he thought we were coming in from a G5 conference. It was embarassing.

I watched the replay it was fine. It was clear that the announcers know nothing about Utah football except the headlines. They did little homework as evidenced by their inability to pronounce Poly names.

The injury to Kenan Johnson is disheartening for him and the team. They did not have a good view of it on television, but it appeared that he was just running with a WR running a streak. The injury to Akili looked like a hyper-extension of the knee.

Simote Pepa and Munir McClain were two guys I expected to see that we did not see.

I imagine the wheel route will be something that defensive coordinators will spend some time on. The receivers did a great job of not getting an offensive PI called on both plays.

Do we know how long he’s out?

Posters on Utehub are saying that it doesn’t look good.

A couple media insiders indicated it’s likely season ending. On the plus side, Calhoun appears ready for a return next week.

It’s a brutal game and a lot of athletes suffer life altering injuries.

I laughed when Cam was tying that shoe.

“Uhhh… isn’t there a play coming in?”

But when Mike Mitchell scored a TD in the second half with Wilson under center, Cam came onto the field to congratulate ALL the offensive players.

That’s leadership.

Watching Wilson interact with people, he’s got that “it” factor.

The QB’s all looked relaxed and on the same page.

Looks like Kenan Johnson’s season is over. Apparently he can take a medical redshirt. Surprisingly, Aliki’s injury was not as serious as thought and will be back this season.

Watching the Miami vs Florida game and Miami has a TE in his 9th season. One redshirt and 3 medical redshirt years. Miami looked very good. I anticipate Florida will be looking for a new HC before the end of the year.

I hope Kenan comes back.

Quality player, he would be the leader of the CBs. Recover, rehab, add to his academic resume.

So he’s about as old as the average byu-p player then?
