Utah Basketball 2023-2024 Recruiting

Respectively agree to disagree.

I don’t know where you’re getting this from. Some players just don’t like to dunk. I get vaccinated because I trust experts. I will trust Smith until I have reason not to.

We are not short on bangers. We’ll start two seven footers with strong basketball skills and have a couple of additional bangers at least.

I’d prefer players not be “raw.” What I’ve been hoping for is someone with good enough athleticism who can shoot and has strong basketball skills. Let’s hope this new addition is one of those.

Vs. the best U19 competition in the world:

Utah basketball adds commitment from highly-touted European prospect - Saturday Out West

For example, Dylan Harper, the no. 1 2024 prospect in the US per ESPN, started for the US team that Turkey beat for the bronze medal.

So was this guy on the US team. Cody Williams - Basketball Recruiting - Player Profiles - ESPN

Good point. Jamal Wilkes intentionally chose not to dunk. Nobody with half a brain would conclude from that he wasn’t a damn good forward.

Agree with a need for strong basketball skills. I could care less about dunking, (although it is fun) for me it is more about rebounding and defense. strength definitely helps and he has that but there are some strong long bouncy bodies in this conference. Most of them are at the top.

Maybe not last year, but it sure seems like a lot of times Oregon’s whole team is just a bunch of 6’5"-6’10" guys who can all run, jump, and shoot.

That’s not necessarily the be all and end all. Tim Allen and Alex Jensen didn’t top the charts for athleticism and weren’t long or bouncy. Utah usually has had to go with contrasting virtues.

Not saying this is the be all end all but it can’t hurt.

Pac-12 returning scoring by percentage:

Colorado 76.9%
Utah 64%
Oregon State 63.9%
Stanford 58.6%
USC 55.3%
Oregon 53.8%
Washington 48.5%
Arizona 39.6%
Cal 38.6%
Arizona State 25.3%
Washington State 25%
UCLA 17.9%

Great stat! I think Colorado will be better than expected this year.

Unless their big uglies up front got a more than major upgrade, Shadeur is going to spend the season running for his life.
