If this gets swatted down fairly quickly, the public image of Texas Tech has sizable dents they’ll be trying to explain for a bit, but it’s a minor win for the Big-12 and college athletics.
From the text of the filing, a lot about Baylor sanction back 10 years ago, and then this.
“…TTU’s apparent current position that the Conference lacks authority under its bylaws to saction a member institution whose conduct the Conference Board determines to be sanctionable… is directly contradicted by TTU’s own prior conduct. The Baylor sanctions demonstrate that the Conference has previously exercised precisely the type of sanction authority it now seeks to invoke, and that TTU itself voted to authorize and impose those very sanctions without objection.”
Finally. Everyone but TT admin knew this was how it would end. Good luck to any NFL team that touches him. The Browns will probably take him haha.
Hammond (who is arguably better than Sorelosersby) will just be at 9 months ACL tear to start the season so won’t be ready, but they aren’t going to lose their 1st 2 games. Maybe they’ll have a Cam Rising situation of game time decisions. Houston might shock them. I could see some tensions and them slip to 9-3 which would be delicious with all the money they are spending.
If the NFL does not accept his application will that give him a stronger argument in support of TRO? I don’t think it should. If the NFL won’t touch him it is because of gambling, not being unable to play for TT this year.
Haha, NFL decides not to hold supplemental draft and basically says Sorsby hasn’t taken any accountability and has not demonstrated how he would adhere to NFL rules and he’s just a distraction to the league and teams right now, so sorry, not sorry. His agent of course is saying it’s against the CBA and the law, but they don’t HAVE to hold it (last one was in 2019 edit: 2023, but no players selected [2019 had someone selected]). Sorsby can play CFL (maybe) and try for next year’s draft. Hilarious. What a tool.
I have a friend in Germany who’s been following the Sorsby fiasco.
They have a semi-pro league of American football, a player like Sorsby would get free rent, a modest salary and very little else…public transportation and free healthcare.
If Sorsby wants to rehabilitate his life and possibly resurrect his career, might not be a bad option.
Go to Germany, get control of your life, there won’t be throngs of fans, nobody there would care. Do that for a couple of years. Whether he ever plays in the NFL is really secondary.
I’m starting to feel kind of bad for the guy. Likely got some bad advice from a money hungry agent. If he had taken his medicine, sat out the year, go through rehab, and kept himself in shape, he might have been able to come back with TT for a second chance. Now you have to question if he’ll ever get another shot.
The thing I don’t get about Sorsby is why was he so vaunted in the first place. Sure I know he put up some good numbers overall. But the handful of times I saw him play he looked like a totally one dimensional, single read QB. He was positively abysmal against last year’s Utah defense, who weren’t exactly world beaters.
