The Transfer Portal Thread

True, but I think all around play would improve with O-line progress.

Seriously, Cam Rising and Andy Ludwig should be very happy guys today. They’re slated to have an excellent receivers corps this fall.

I’d forgotten that Singer had 1100 yards at AZ before transferring to SC.

Began as preferred walkon at AZ, then exploded as RS FR, was All-PAC.

Lotta highlights here:

Arizona’s All-Pac-12 WR Dorian Singer heading to USC - ESPN

The preferred walkon experience to me indicates he’ll fit right in. Vele made great strides, here. No reason to think Singer can’t do the same.

Other than safety and OL, is there a position group that is not equal or better than in 2023. The OL might become better as I think it was not as good as expected in 2023. It will be hard to be better at safety and while Bishop and Vaki were very good, neither seemed to have the ability we saw from RoJo and Marcus Williams at getting over to help the corners on deep balls down the sideline.

Even if Utes don’t sign a portal QB, I think Rose and Wilson will be better than Barnes and Johnson.

Jayden de Laura landed at Texas St.?! Their (former P5 transfer) QB had 3500 yards, 24/8, so should have competition to start.

  • Already talked about Malachi Nelson going to Boise St. from USC
  • Ty Thompson (backup to Bo Nix) went to Tulane.
  • Will Howard to Ohio State from KSU (is he really an upgrade or similar to McCord, who went to Syracuse?)
  • I think moves like Maalik Murphy (Texas to Duke, replacing Riley Leonard going to ND) and DJU (Ore St. to FSU) and Aidan Chiles (following coach from OSU to Mich St.) and even Dante Moore (UCLA to Oregon, even though he’ll probably back up Gabriel - OU to Oregon) make more sense

Will Rogers was going to go to UW, but has opened it back up. Taulia Tagovailoa needs a 7th year waiver, Brayden Dorman is out of Arizona (will Fifita stay?).

Such a carousel for QBs this year. Only a few seem like upgrades (P5 starter going to ‘better’ P5 school), some getting starting opportunities after being backup, many getting starting opportunities at ‘lesser’ schools including G5. I wonder how many don’t really land anywhere or have to ‘settle’.

It’s pretty crazy. I get they all feel they have a chance to play on Sunday, but in all likelihood they will be lucky to play in the UFL or CFL.

Weddle had a great rant about how crazy all this transferring is on Spence Checketts show before Christmas, and on Riley’s show last week.

Another QB, Chubba Purdy, brother of Brock will transfer from Nebraska to SJSU.

Speaking of SJSU, their coach Brent Brennan is headed to AZ as their new coach.

I guess he can room with his brother!

An enterprising recruiter at San Jose State could use that to their advantage. Bring in kids, take them over to the Purdy Santa Clara residence during the visit.

“This could potentially happen for you, as well!”

Will Rogers? He never met a football program he didn’t like.

There was some talk here about the Utes being the favorites in 2024 in B12, and someone mentioned Kansas St. Their freshman quarterback, Avery Johnson, stepped up and played really well in their bowl game after Howard leaving. That is team to be worried about. We don’t play them this year, so the Utes don’t have the chance to knock them down themselves.

Off topic…

A long, loooong time ago I worked for the FAA in Oklahoma City, right next to Will Rogers World Airport. The other airport in OKC is Wiley Post Executive Airport.

Both those guys died in a plane crash. I’m a (private) pilot, too, so no disrepect… but WTH?

I mean, we didn’t name the Olympic Ski Jumping place “The Wide World of Sports Guy Ski Jump Plaza”.

So when they build their next airport, maybe they name it after Buddy Holly or Lynyrd Skynnrd?

Or Patsy Cline or Carole Lombard, you sexist

We could go with Amelia Earhart, but no one knows for sure if the crash got her, or was it the no food and water on the island. :man_shrugging:

Texas pulling Alabama and now Oregon State’s WR.

She’s still alive, living with JFK

I always thought they were saying, “The agony of the feet” when I was a kid. I thought, “It seems like more than just his feet were hurting after that crash.”
