The entirety of Facebook is “unpleasant content”.
Preach it brother!
This is where I go “get rid of 50% of the world’s male population and then 90% of the world’s problems go away”. Haha
Bartle reporting Moa is in SLC and is enrolled.
The always excellent Holly Rowe did a fantastic interview with Scalley. https://youtu.be/eRcZIzqH3sA?si=2YMvIfA10aal79Cm
Bartle interviewing Bryson Barnes about McGiven (about halfway in the video)
Definitely an endorsement.
Just saw that Dallas Vakalahi is in the portal. Not too happy about that. Overall, though, what I’m pleased to see is that we haven’t had impact offense players enter yet. Snowden and Tao Johnson hurt, though. Maybe they’ll test the water and reconsider.
I doubt Snowden returns. This week, he’s visiting BYU (was tempted last year), Mich (Whitt), Colorado, Oregon, Georgia, with interest from Ole Miss, Cal, Washington as well… definitely shopping for a high price and is one of the top CBs in the portal (currently listed #3 on 247 but tied for 1st - other top guy committed to Ole Miss, so that’s probably out of the running).
I’ll be honest. Snowden and Johnson want more money than they’re likely worth.
Both were somewhat underwhelming this last year.
Utah lands a couple of defensive lineman from the portal; North Texas DE Ethan Day, Wyoming DL Lucas Samsula
Also adds Oklahoma safety Marcus Wimberly
Added TE coach Luke Wells, who was most recently the TE coach at K-State, coached previously at TTech, Utah State, Iowa State.
He’s coached multiple position groups, so this is another hire that adds depth to the staff, and knows a lot of the Big-12 terrain.
IMO Scalley won the presser.
Scalley is exactly what we need.
A coach with a relatable personality and who is genuine.
It’s been interesting to see people talk about the difference in demeanor etc. between Scalley and his predecessor
He’s a senior, right? Why would he need to declare? If you don’t does the NFL ignore you?
Yeah, he’s out of eligibility.
I thought Snowden did a pretty good job. 2nd team All Big-12 (we had 3 1st team, 2 2nd team, 3 3rd team, so that puts him as top 5 player on the team). He was graded 65.9 PFF (above average, with a few games near elite grade), got 70% zone and 73% marks on coverage (pretty high). Before injuries to secondary, contributions to offense. Hard to find someone to replace him outright, but yes, maybe asking more than his valuation. Maybe not Clark Phillips III but we are better with him than without him.
It seems to me this is his chance to make some money. If Cam Calhoun pulled in $1M from Alabama, maybe Snowden can do something similar, probably not as much, but cash-in while you can.
He doesn’t seem like a legit NFL prospect. He’s tough, he’s savvy, he’s a vocal leader, he’s a pretty good tackler for his size, but NFL athletes would run away from him fairly easily.
Shah has done a really good job bringing in JuCos or transfers and having them be productive. Cotton & Saunders this year, Miles Battle, etc. I think we’ll be fine.
Ah, good to know. I thought he had another year remaining.
Never mind, not weird then. ![]()
I think if I were Morgan Scalley I’d use the Cam Calhoun thing as a sales pitch to kids. Yeah, he got a lot of money from 'Bama, and he rode the bench. If he had any NFL aspirations he didn’t help himself because for all intents and purposes he barely exists on film in 2025. Scalley and Shah have a good track record of getting guys into the NFL. In the presser yesterday I loved Scalley’s comments of getting his players to be the best they can be in every aspect of their lives. Get them the long-term perspective, rather than wanting quick bucks that 95% will totally blow through before their 30th birthday.
maybe weird that they have to announce it like they are leaving early or transferring. I strongly dislike the preamble, ‘with that said …’, … pattern. In this case, there is no caveat ‘with that said …’. Just say what you want to say. I guess it’s not a bad thing to show gratitude to the path that got you there and like a job change, announcing their next ‘chapter’ …
Kind of like several years ago, announcers started to say ‘his resiliency …’ when resilience worked just fine. I looked it up and it is a word, not made up, but it just seemed unnecessary and like they were really reaching for a complicated word. But that’s just me an my problems.
