Sounds like you found some of our “fans” on FB.
Spending time on some parts of the Internet is like having a picnic at the landfill.
Been getting pings all day from ESPN about how this player or that player is signing with other B12 teams.
Keep hoping that one of these notices involves an incoming player to Utah, but no luck yet.
Sons of bitches! Bumphises!
Rounding out a staff that seems good and geographically diverse.
I think the portal is bad for the game, but I’m interested to see how we do, now.
It’s crazy to think there was a time when it was actually shocking to see a player transfer, especially a starter or solid contributor. I remember after the 1990–91 basketball season (a terrific 30-4 campaign in Majerus’ first full year), FOUR Utes transferred, including two-year starter Tyrone Tate and sixth man Antoine Davison. Of course, prior to the transfer portal, athletes had to sit out a year after a transfer, unless they transferred to a lower division. So, Tate and Davison went to D-III schools. In football, especially, it was extremely rare for a starter to transfer to an FBS school.
Picnic…no. Spotlighting rats…entertainment.
Whenever I remember Davison I remember what Majerus said on the radio postgame about him when he was asked why he’d only been in for three minutes. It was along the lines of, “I told him to do two very specific things when he went in and he didn’t do either one of them.” IIRC that was the last game Davison was on the squad. He wasn’t missed.
I pretty much follow NO Facebook groups for Utah or Big 12. They have some rather unpleasant content.
I’ve been renovating a bathroom. What a giant pain in the ■■■ it has been. Due to poor workmanship by the builder (thanks elephant logo home builder), I had to rip out everything down to the studs. It’s my first time doing this type of work. I’ve made some mistakes, but have learned a ton. I’m confident the new digs could survive a medium size tornado/earthquake at 1/2 the cost of having someone else do it. And if anything goes wrong I have the knowledge and skills to fix it.
Scalley is doing something similar. Next year would have undoubtedly been easier had all the coaches/players stayed. But maybe that’s not the best long term scenario for Utah football. Whitt faced similar circumstances in 2005. 2008 doesn’t happens without the struggles and grind of 2005.
Scalley is being forced to rip out everything down to the studs. He’ll likely make some mistakes. Maybe some of his hires won’t work out? We’ll undoubtedly experience some growing pains. But the decisions will all be his, and God willing maybe we’ll have a magical run at some point?
Lacking a TE coach and a strength coach. Doug Elisaia will be missed. He is a great strength coach.
Davison had talent. He was big and athletic. But he was lazy. The guy Utah really missed from those four transfers in '92 was Thomas Wyatt. He went on to average 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists for New Mexico St.
Wasn’t Tyrone Tate the player that missed the open layup that would have won the conference championship? That year the tournament was in Laramie (really!) Those were interesting years.
Oh yes, in OT against BYU, down 51-49. Tate misses a wide-open layup at the buzzer. Cost Utah a #3 seed in the tournament.
just so I’m sure…Scalley isn’t also coaching basketball now is he? ![]()
So they went on a detour. Old people do that.
I should know.![]()

it wasn’t a criticism. It was me making sure I wasn’t having my own senior moment ![]()
Racine Guillory, highly regarded RB from Texas just signed with LSU. He played in one game for Utah and was bypassed on depth chart by Bray. Apparently was offered by Ole Miss last year. One of three things: Clashed with Atuaia; did not work hard or not as talented as he appeared. Hard to believe anyone could clash with Atuaia. Oh well, if we keep Wayshawn and Bray and the commit from Oregon, we could be okay although I think a team needs at least 5 RB’s.
Didn’t I read somewhere here that every P5 team has around 27 transfer portal peeps? If so…if they are coming from our peeps who only played 1 game…I can live with it.
I mean I’ll live with any number really because this is a game, being played by “college students” and it can’t define my life and should never alter it’s course…but I’ve allowed it to influence a few sleepless nights over the years. I’m getting better at not letting that happen now though. So Good on him. If he wanted to go…bye. Next year we’ll have someone new to root for…for one game or one season…at least. I am hoping Scalley does what I hope he can do and inspires the key players to stay.
