I miss hearing my great Aunt Violet’s thick Scottish brogue which came out at times when she would be having a conversation with my grandmother- her younger sister. I never knew my great grandfather but apparently he had a very thick brogue as well. He was known to say after Sunday dinner “Thet wuz a rate gude feed”
Yeah, it’s quite odd. I stumbled on it while following John Wilner.
I like this guy. When I’ve got insomnia I sometimes go down a rabbit hole with is linguistics stuff.
But VERY limited in availability. Very few T Time places compared to T Bell
Ooh I love that guy. But he’s also insanely handsome, classy etc. Affectionately known a Language Daddy to many ![]()
. Brilliant guy.
Another brilliant languages dude. As a polyglot and amateur linguist I also disappear for hours watching these things
Here is some Taco Time Trivia no one wanted to know. Here in Western Washington, we have our own independant Taco Time restaurant chain, technically called Taco Time Northwest. I can’t bring myself to go there or any other Taco Time/Taco Bell etc. but I have heard the menu and everything is different than the national Taco Time. I lived in Seattle 10 years before I knew this tidbit of useless knowledg:
Taco Time has tots. That gives them the edge in my book.
The crisp bean burritos are a fam favorite.
The clip was really informative and fun. Love how he transitioned from two or 3 dialects in one seamless sentence. I’m going to check out more as it always interested me. For sure, there’s a lot of dialects between Main and Delaware. I also find it amusing that nowadays, after so many Boston themed movies, when I say “I’m from Boston,” I usually get an immediate Boston accent imitation - no matter where the inquirer is from - They might be from Kenya, but they can imitate Mark Walberg or Casey Affleck. Pretty funny how Boston has earned a special cache. It used to be just another place to come from.
I never could put my finger on the Road Island accent, but I remember one of the news stations was out of Providence and the female broadcaster had a thick RI accent and she pronounced Warwick as “Wahwhick”
It’s also great to hear another dude comment on a handsome guy by calling him so. Growing up in NE, it is seemed a lot of men would never acknowledge the fact that say, Harrison Ford or Brad Pitt were in fact, “good looking.” Guys, it’s not a declaration of interest; it also happens to be a fact…
The first Taco Time in Canada opened in 1978 in Lethbridge Alberta about 20 minutes from my house. In HS my buddy and I had a spare period right after lunch and before PE/Typing class. We would often go to TT for lunch and not make it back in time on the days we had Typing class. That was the only class I failed in HS.
I failed typing as well. If my HS teacher saw me type today, she would have a stroke. computers have made typing classes obsolete. but it was an excellent skill to learn at the time. I should have tried harder.
Fortunately I got through college before people were typing their exams. If I was there today my GPA would probably be at least one point lower.
Well, I don’t go around talking about it much; especially since at 63 and a widower, I dont see myself ever looking for another life partner, but I am unashamedly on the queer spectrum. Not truly bisexual, but not gay either. For me it has been the case that it depends on the individual soul/mind - no matter how desirable the outer package may be.
I cant count the number of men who get upset when they learn that queer men arent attracted to them.. its some sort of ego hit. Its pretty damn funny to observe.
Bravo! Certo. OIvviamente sono d’accordo (of course, I agree)
I also fear the past will soon be our future in many ways.

Addendum:
“Many people need desperately to receive this message: ‘I feel and think much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone.’”

- Elie Wiesel
Those days of correction tape and white-out.
There used to be stacks in the University of Utah Medical Library with bound PhD thesis’s from the 30’s on up with handwritten, and then, hand typed papers on various biomedical/science topics. Very inspiring and cool.
When basketball announcers say, “that guy can really score the basketball”. Why not just say “he can really score” or "he is a scorer.
On a side item related to scoring in Basketball, it was said today that during his time as a Los Angeles Laker, LeBron James is 1 for 29 on game winning/tying shots with less that 5 seconds left in the game. For the record, his percentage totals from the rest of the teams he played on are considerably higher. For most of his career, LeBron was clutch in winning time; but over the last 6 1/2 seasons he is playing more to his new gloss…
