The pet peeves thread

So, modern crony captialism or corporatism? Short term gain, that is detrimental to long term profitability, longevity, customer and employee loyalty.

I am by no means anti-capitalism or anti-wealth, but I do thoroughly dislike modern corporate West.

More like no scruples-ism.

I don’t even need to have the redaction to be removed to know the word. Cory Doctorow was prescient on this issue.

“Pros” that you hire to do major work in your home who actually don’t seem to have a clue what they’re doing and you have to watch like a hawk at every step.

I’m now 10 weeks into a shower pan leak and repair and it’s been a nightmare. At best two weeks still to wait to actually use my master bathroom for bathing.

My pet peeve with this is that you don’t know that they are incompetent until it’s too late and they are already part way into the job.

Some a$$hole got my credit card number and has been using it to rack up nearly $1,000 in Uber rides over the past two weeks. Logged into pay my bill and found it this morning. So not only will I have to try to get all of those charges reversed, but I’ll now also have to cancel my card, get new cards issued, update all of my auto payments, etc.

People freaking suck man. :rage:

This is why I check all my accounts on a daily basis. At least I can nip it in the bud quickly if there’s a problem.

Yeah, I definitely need to get in that habit

Bank of America was really good about it though, they canceled the cards and are crediting back all the charges today.

To add another layer of peeve, I also went in to change the password on my Uber account. In order to do so, you have to put in a 4-digit code they text you.

My phone number is correct in their system, but they number they’re texting the code to is one digit off. I.E. My phone number is 801-555-5555, but they’re sending the code to 801-556-5555.

And Uber has no customer support line for riders, you just have to send them an e-mail and wait for them to respond.

“Customer service”, indeed.

My credit union sends me alerts when my cards are used so I can detect fraud in real time and turn off the card immediately.

Yup. And when there are multiple crafts involved you get screwed up in critical interfaces after the first guys “finished” their job.

Edit to add: I really don’t think it should be my problem to check every detail of these guys’ work.

I think the answer to this question is yes.

Is road rage in Utah a bigger problem than anticipated?

Wow! What a surprise.
Whooda thunk aggressive, insecure toxic dudes packing heat would be a problem for normal people trying to run a few errands without being in the Brickyard 500.

Brickyard 500? These clowns are driving Fury Road.

“The floor sponsor, Sen. Todd Weiler, R-Wood Cross, said he has been surprised by the number of people who’ve called him about this law. Family members of those charged with road rage are calling him to argue about their loved ones’ intent.

Oh boy.

Here, let me help.

  • “They thought a woke H1B immigrant was going to take their job”
  • “They were trying to stimulate the market for body shop employment”
  • "TWINKIES, Senator, the chemicals in Twinkies!!*

I wonder what the response will be from the Legislature?

“We encourage the citizenry of Utah to use other ways to express their 1st Amendment rights… that don’t necessarily involve proceeding to the 2nd Amendment”

Then there is this:

He concluded by urging Utahns to take a moment to breathe and reconsider their reactions on the road. He said it’s better to stay calm than make a decision they could regret for the rest of their lives.

Right. In today’s political climate I’m absolutely sure that people are going to stay calm.

With most road rage incidents that get to where people are out of their cars fighting, ramming their vehicle into another one, pulling out (and even firing) a firearm, etc. pretty much both have made the decision to continue a confrontation rather than ‘just let it go’.

Someone gets in front of you going too slow, no need for flashing your head lights, horn honking, rude gestures, etc. just calm down and get on with your day.

Stay safe and sane out there
