If you told me at almost 51 I would have a new favorite album and song I would have thought you were crazy. But this song is (to me) perfect. And they lyrics really are helping me through losing my pup. I miss her so much and this song helps me.
Before a meeting where I need to present a provocative idea:
Sometimes after the meeting when the reaction sinks in… and thoughts of retirement seem kind of pleasant.
I haven’t thought about Earl for ages thanks for the reminder ![]()
40 years ago today. This album absolutely blew the mind of 12-year-old SkinyUte.
While Metallica has gone steadily downhill since, this is still one of the best metal albums ever recorded.
Colbert’s band (the class of the late night tv bands) went into a commercial break tonight playing a tune I immediately recognized as Sly & The Family Stone - I Want to Take You Higher.
It sent me very happily down a rabbit hole listening to all of Sly’s great old tunes, which eventually lead me to my favorite of his tunes (below). It’s in 12/8 time which creates such a unique rhythm that it’s unmistakable.
Sly and his band, and particularly this tune, defined “funk”.
The whole documentary is good. It wasn’t released for about 20 years cuz the Stones felt they were eclipsed by The WHO.
To piggyback on this particular post. I found on Prime “Man on the Run” about Paul McCartney. I’m not far into it, maybe 45min, but so far it has proven interesting. So far a ton of talk on The Beatles and their breakup.
While the soundtrack for K-Pop demon hunters earned an Oscar as well as the movie, I’m still falling back on my first introduction to K-Pop. Four very beautiful incredibly talented young ladies. Who after a long time training and then launching a thank you to go range from 31 to 29 years old. So they’re no longer girls.
And folks come up I don’t care how old you are, if I could discover and fall in love with the insane talent of these four when I was 57 or 58 years old, there’s no excuse for anyone else.
My teenaged daughter has introduced me to K-pop and I swear it is scientifically engineered to be catchy. The K-pop Demon Hunters soundtrack has some definite bangers with Golden and Takedown being highlights.
ETA: if you know me personally and my usual musical taste, you’ll know how much weight that first sentence carries.
I wouldn’t say I like the Demon Hunter soundtrack, per se, but I do find it less annoying than most of what my kids listen to. So in that respect, it’s a raging success.
In my musical world, the new Monstrosity album is a f*cking beast. https://youtu.be/YG_MpdBELJ8?si=RdJf-G041Un7vQnq
The remaster of Dan Swano’s (Edge of Sanity) excellent solo album “Moontower” was also a neat surprise a couple weeks back.
Feel very lucky to have seen the Allman Brothers 6 times in various line ups ,unfortunately none of them with Duane.
