My wife used to sing this song as a lullaby to our kids when they were toddlers. Don’t ask why because I have no idea. She has a great voice and it worked like a charm.
That was so good. Tedeski-Trucks in the background just listening.
Here is 13 year old Derek Trucks jamming with the Allman Brothers, his uncle is Butch Trucks.
Love that he’s wearing a Duane Allman t-shirt!
Catching up on a couple excellent albums that I missed in 2024.
Chat Pile, “Cool World”. Anyone who drifted towards the weirder and harsher end of 90’s alternative should give this one a spin. It basically feels like an angrier and (somehow) more nihilistic version of The Jesus Lizard, The Melvins, or Nirvana, with a dash of Gorilla Biscuits hardcore and just a smidge of metal thrown in for good measure. The best compliment I can think to give this album is that Steve Albini would have loved it.
Amiensus, “Reclamation (Part I and II)”. Just a masterful example of how to effectively combine lilting, sweeping melodies that would feel right at home on a Diablo soundtrack with feet stomping, stank face melodeath riffs. A double album that still somehow feels too short and just overflows with creativity and energy.
IT’S EUROVISION QUALIFYING SEASON AGAIN!!!
THere are two songs already chosen from:
Montenegro - Dobrodoshli, a rather typical pedestrian Balkan ballad, but with a stunning voice - revamp expected in the 4 months til the contest;
Albania - in a HUGE upset, the country’s biggest popstar narrowly lost in the combined Jury and Televoting by a duo born in Italy, though of Northern Albanian family. They entered the AAlbanian contest to try and drum up hype and exposure for their upcoming album, and had no actual intent of winning. THey had a truly minimalist staging as a result, and yet still took both contest and now the Eurovsion internet by storm. I’m really hoping for great things from them - they’ve sworn it will remain in Albanian language, but they also have 4 months to come up with some fancy staging to go with very infectious (pardon the term) song.
When you take the time to read the lyrics from the man’s dramatic spoken word verse, you get an idea of how it has enchanted the Albanians… truly evocative imagery.
Here’s a link to their winning performance:
