If you’re a fan of the Weather Report tune posted in the “pet peeves” thread, and also enjoy complex vocal harmonies, check this version of the tune out.
The lyrics are probably a bit contrived, but who cares, as the vocals are superb. Check out the soprano as she perfectly scats the electric piano improve from the original recoding near the end of the tune.
I’d kill to be able to sing as well as these folks.
And if you’re a familiar with the early saxophone classic, Body and Soul by Coleman Hawkins, you’ll get a kick out of the near perfect vocal duplication by the same singers. (It’s also a tribute to Eddie Jefferson, who pioneered this style of vocal jazz.)
I am a decades long ManTran fan since “Boy From New York City” in like 1981 or so. I’ve sung professionally and chorally, and also played flute and some piano, so I can truly appreciate their genius in moving between various Jazz and Pop influences. Their Brazil album was totally unexpected. I wonder how they all are these days? the bald one was getting up there in years.

For obvious reasons, I love this song, and especially this rendition from the night Randy Newman was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. The lineup of icons who are playing for their buddy Randy is awesome. I never imagined John Fogerty doing this!
