The new coach speculation thread

Point taken.

Edit to add: Although byu-provo would be much better than a lot of teams if they could only play them on the right day.

One more edit: It has helped them this year. But I don’t think there have been any long term benefits, but we will see.

Interesting. I’m not arguing with your point, it is valid. But here’s my start to the list.

Danny Vranes
Jordan Loveridge
Fred Roberts
Brett Vroman
Shawn Bradley

Only long excerpts, and $6.95/month will be enough. Cheap!

Add Britton Johnson and Alex Jenson. Probably Kyle Collinsworth and the kid who went to Duke.

You have just 2 guys who had meanginful NBA careers with Vranes and Bradley.

I guess that’s it. One thing for sure, BYU was insanely over-seeded and yesterday proved it. Without looking closely, I believe their seed was more-or-less supported by their net ranking, which tells me those were all out of whack as well.

Minor issue, but I have to stand up for Rudy here. Being the DFO is all consuming job. The FB program is a bigger economy than many small towns. (Which is how Title 9 has decimated all the other men’s sports.)

(I know you agree, just sayin’)

Tom Chambers should be on that list. He grew up in Utah, before finishing HS in CO.

Tom Chambers was MVP of the NBA All-Star team. He grew up in Utah, went to Colorado for high school.

26 players in the NBA were born in Utah. List of all the NBA and ABA Players Born in Utah | Basketball-Reference.com

Exactly. It’s not an impressive list. Utah just hasn’t traditionally been a big basketball state.

Byron Scott? Didn’t know that.

and you are far too old to be a new coach at the University of Utah. We need someone young who can relate to the players he/she is recruiting.

Yep and only ten of those guys played in this century… including Allred and other NBA juggernauts like Eric Mika (BTW Mika was reportedly born in MA, not UT… and Allred was born in MT- widely known)

It’s $150/year including the NYT if you only want to read it online.

Some discussion about 2 guys we’ve talked about here.

I saw Musselman mentioned on Facebook. I don’t know why he would leave Arkansas for Utah.

If we are going to claim Byron Scott, then can we also claim Steph Curry? (Or was he born after Dell moved on from the Jazz?)

Steph Curry was born in Ohio.

To Mark Harlan:

Good grief. If Craig Smith wants the Gopher job, we should grab him. Am I the only one who cares about the city I live in? Not sure why, but I’ve gotten the impression over the past year that Minneapolis is not such a great place to live. The weather, for one thing. Also, Minnesota has been a coaches graveyard forever.

I like the sentimentality of Alex Jensen. But the Arkansas situation is a lesson in the wisdom of hiring a proven successful head coach.
