The new coach speculation thread

I think he was being honest with them. A.few days ago, it seemed clear that he was going to be staying in Logan. I’m sure he was as surprised as everyone else at how this unfolded.

I don’t think he knew anything. His comments a few days ago came after he was not going to Minnesota.

Based on the information we’ve all heard, Utah was focusing on Alex at that time.

It really bit when Meyer left us for Florida after praising the lifestyle & fans at Utah. In hindsight, Urban wasn’t going to be anywhere very long, and Whit will probably be the longest tenured, arguably best FB coach in our history, certainly in the modern era.

I’m not expecting Smith to be a 10 year coach at Utah. I’m not predicting he won’t be, I just don’t have long term expectations of any head coach. It’s a limited shelf life job, it just is - especially in a highly competitive league like we’re in.

I’m excited to see what Smith does! My enthusiasm level is 4x what it was, easy.

Arguably?

I hear you on the excitement. Smith wasn’t in my top 3, but it’s our nature as fans to be excitable and hopeful. I think he’s in a good position to be successful early, and success breeds success.

Indiana hires Mike Woodson.

Sheesh. Tough crowd. Whit is Utah’s mt Rushmore. That’s it, whit!

I agree. I hope he can win a PAC-12 championship before he retires. That would add luster to his position on Rushmore.
