The new coach speculation thread

I hope this turns out but Harlan may have made a big mistake. LK wasn’t bad so Harlan needs to find someone who is great.

Not bad is about the same as bad. You miss the tournament either way. Program was stagnating in a major way and attendance would have been brutal next year. Hoping for a sure thing but willing to roll the dice and inject some excitement into the program.

He wouldn’t have been a home run hire. I’ve explained my reasoning. And who else is trying to hire him as head coach?

It isn’t always true that what doesn’t come to pass wasn’t meant to be. But this wasn’t meant to be. The fix was in. And all that was lacking was Alex wanting to be a college basketball head coach more than anything else in the world. This also happens to be a signal trait of all great head coaches (though by itself it’s not enough). Since he’s 44 and hasn’t really been on that path for a long time, I had my concerns about this.

He has a high paying job that is essentially risk free and glamorous, and lives precisely where he wants to live. Most people don’t want anything more out of a job. His choice makes sense. Everyone is better off–Alex, his family, the Jazz, and the Utah Utes.

Oh brother. This is something you say about a paralegal, not a head college basketball coach.

Not that bad? We haven’t been th tournament in how many years? We seem to have half our roster transfer every year. The last time we had a good team he underachieved with 3 NBA players on the roster.

If the the hat was that good he would have played more.

I was thinking about Larry’s tenure the other day it came down to this. Once he got Cancer the production of the team got worse. He probably decided that he had enough money and didn’t want to trade off like he did before.

There are some good dudes on Ute Twitter and it’s easy to curate who you follow. But way too many morons are on Ute Twitter.

Never signed up for Twitter, and probably never will. I would feel a little left out on occasion, but then I’d remind myself why I stayed away and instantly snap out of it.

P.S. How did the member of the White family currently coaching at Florida get mentioned by whoever sourced the Newman/Kamrani/Jones writeups? No way they just pull that name out of thin air - either Harlan (or an intermediary) contacted White or vice versa. Would be interesting to know which was the case and why.

Same as how you’d treat TDS fanatics, leave them alone.

Speaking of MRD, can we get Matt Evans back? For the life of me, I can’t remember his tag.

speaking of twitter, I don’t know how true this is, but I assume there is something to it:

Me either, but, it makes some sense. Competitive athletes hate treading water, and that’s exactly what was happening.
