Sophia Laukli & Novie McCabe will not be part of the Ute ski team this winter

The two dynamite nordic skiers both had a year of eligibility remaining. If they were part of this years roster then five in a row NCAA skiing titles would have been highly likely. Sophia completed her degree and wanted to move on. Novie is moving to Alaska with her boyfriend and plans to join the U.S. national team and compete in the World Cup. She plans to finish her U degree remotely. Both young ladies contributed much to the Skiing Ute’s success.

The Utes still have a good lineup and another NCAA title is not out of the question. Sydney Palmer-Leger, the third member of Laukli-McCabe three musketeers is back for her senior season. Joe Davis, a transfer from University of Alaska Fairbanks, was last years NCAA champion in the men’s nordic freestyle. Senior Madison Hoffman won both women’s alpine events (slalom and giant slalom) at last season’s NCAA’s. Wilhelm Normannseth is one of the best collegiate alpine skiers in the country, his teammate Gustav Vollo isn’t to shabby either.

Thank you for posting about the ski team (especially Nordic skiing)

Best of luck to the both of them.

Is that photo by any chance at the Nordic area at Grand Targhee?

No, but we have been there!
That’s on the Redman connection at Solitude Nordic Center.
Happy to chat to any fellow Skate/Nordic skiers who BM’s me.
