Interesting they moved Baylor to Sep 7. Utah State has @ USC Sep 7, so to make this work, we needed them Sep 14. Baylor had a game scheduled against AFA on Sep 7, so looking like they will move that, probably to the 14th (AFA is still open that day).
I always have enjoyed going to Logan for games. Great atmosphere and beautiful setting.
Can anyone confirm how the locals pronounce this name?
Mantua is correctly pronounced “Radar Trap”.
Man-too-a. Sometimes more like “manna-way.” Brigham City boy here.
I saw this pointed out elsewhere.
Until the PAC12 folded we had 7 home games scheduled. SUU, byu, Baylor, Arizona, Washington, Southern Cal, and Oregon State
Now we have SUU, byu, Baylor, Arizona, TCU, and Iowa State
So…because of the PAC12 implosion, we basically traded Washington, Southern Cal, and Oregon State for TCU, Iowa State, and nobody.
Not to be confused with “Hupper” or “Hurcan”
Not too bad. Tons of Utah fans will travel there. I went to there back in 2012 I think
Utah State is a bowl team this year. Plus it could be way worse. Utah could be stuck in quasi-independency like Oregon State and Washington State. Iowa State won at BYU this year.
Manaway. In true Utah fashion they don’t pronounce the “t” in the middle of the word
Right. Air Force will probably play a conference opponent on September 7th
Yeah. I think Utah has a winning record against Utah State there. Last time we played up there though Utah lost in 2OT’s. I was there it was fun.
Thank you both. I’ve been driving by this town for the better part of 50 years, reading the name and applying my own version of how it must be pronounced. The first many times I heard someone say, “Manaway”, I didn’t have any idea what place they were talking about.
Yes, this one I figured out a long time ago, when I kept hearing people say something like, “…down near Hurcan, an’ LaVurcan”. I laughed like hell the first time I saw both names on a road sign.
Remember when the license plates used to have county stickers? The sticker for Iron County was a handy pronunciation guide: RN.
Should’ve been FE.
That would have required thought.
Employing thought in RN county? That would be RNY indeed.
Big 12 has to announce soon, right? Cal, Stanford, and SMU joined ACC after all the Big 12 was ‘settled’.
SMU only has 11 games?
Edit/Update: Some indications it will come out Jan 30
It isn’t just the conference, but TV partners in this case ESPN and FOX
