Snelgrove's returns

This great news. Lots of memories about this company’s product.

Snelgrove Ice Cream, an iconic Salt Lake City brand, is making its comeback?

my family always went there for cones on summer nights when we were kids. I always got vanilla chocolate chip; my dad got lemon custard my mom got peppermint, my brother got chocolate.

They sold Snelgrove ice cream in the Scera Theater in Orem, too. We would get a cone to enjoy during a Saturday afternoon matinee growing up.

When I was a kid we often went to the 4th south location for cones on hot summer evenings.

I know some members of the family, very nice people. I’m glad to see this happening.

Edit: to say, I think I may be mis-remembering… wasn’t there a Snelgrove shop on South Temple, just one or two doors east of 2nd East, on the south side? I think that’s where we used to go sometimes as a kid. There was also a place on seventh east on the west side, just south of 4th south that we also went for ice cream and candy; was it Fendall’s, or Fernwoods?

I know there was an ice cream place on 4th S and about 6th East (between 6th and 7th?). I think it was a Snelgroves but I may be wrong about that.

Sadly, while they might bring back some of the glpory, the nightmarish Black Cone that is half block from my apt is unlikely to be recovered, as Jimmy John’s is a less than wonderful company. Too bad this couldnt have happened while it was Squirrel Brothers… they would gladly have sold the property. If Jimmy JOhn’s becomes aware of any desire for that location, they would demand astronomical $$ to sell it… That’s the kind of ethics their founder/owner has

So many people remember the flavors they got as kids. Mine were vanilla, then caramel pecan, and finally peppermint chocolate spray.

That’s right. The place on 7th East was Fendall’s, now a late-night pizza place.

“The Store” supermarket on 6200 S Highland Dr currently carries about 10 flavors of Snelgrove ice cream. They’re excellent l!

Canadian Burnt Almond Fudge.

Actually that just went down recently for… surprise surprise… more apartments. I verified that the “Big Daddy’s” location there has been moved to 180 East 800 South, because of the bldg coming down.So far the former Every BLooming Thing mansion, and the corner Gas station are the only things untouched on that east end of that block on 7th.
[I’m a little unsure about the very small strip office bldg between that mansion and former ModDisplay]

The old Xerox/Traveler’s building is being retrofitted to collegiate-aimed housing, and the old Modern Display building is gone as of 6 months ago or so.

I thought Fendall’s was where Cafe Trio is now. Maybe that was a different ice cream shop.

Their hot fudge sundae where you got a small gravy boat to apply the hot fudge yourself. Chefs kiss.

No… Fendall’s was right there on 700 East between Trolley Square and Modern Display. I am unaware of any ice cream location at 9th/9th area.

That South Temple location is memorable for me. We came down from Canada for my aunt and uncle’s wedding. We went to Snelgrove’s for ice cream after visiting Temple Square. I remember the windows were filled with tons of giant lollipops. That was also the first place where I tried bubblegum ice cream. My brother and sister and I got to sit in our own booth with my cousins to have our ice cream. That was pretty exciting for us young kids. I think I was 8 or 9 years old.

Not a late night pizza place.

Was torn down with modern display, new development coming.

Thanks. Last time I was there it was Big Daddy’s. I know now that BD’s has other locations.

They moved down to 800 South when the building was sold

It was simply Big Daddy’s delivery location … dont even know if you could pick up there. ON a connected note I only really took notice in the last year that the Papa Murphy’s spot on 7th E 300 S is gone…
