Seems that we Utes dodged a bullet

Was just reading an article on ESPN about Troy Taylor and his tenure at Stanford. It appears that he has been less than a polite person while there. I don’t recall any issues what he was our OC.

It seems that there have been 2 investigations at Stanford about his behavior towards women in particular, and subordinates in general.

This isn’t the shortest read, but worth looking at:

While he was in Utah, he lived across the street from me and two doors up. I always have a Ute flag out for football games, and for many/most basketball games (or did in that timeframe), frequently wear Ute gear, have Utefans.net advertising in the yard, Ute license plate rings, etc.
I met his wife and kids, who were very pleasant. I’d see him come and go and always wave.

He did not ever once acknowledge me, my wife, my son, or any of the other neighbors (whether Ute fans or not) for that matter. Everybody thought he was antisocial.

I always assumed that he was a very driven individual, and/or simply very busy, knowing the long hours football coaches work. Or perhaps he really did not like being around fans. Some coaches get very tired of fans, especially overzealous ones. But, perhaps he’s just not very pleasant.

Definitely not good things being said there. It does raise the question of whether he fit in here at all.

I regularly shake my head at how Stanford went from being consistently very good and periodically great to being an absolute cluster.

My recollection was that he was not loved around the program. I don’t have any solid evidence- just that impression.

I’m not way up on Stanford fb history, but isn’t mediocrity their norm? They have little moments of excellence, and had a great run under Harbah. But for the most part, aren’t they a super mid program historically?

I doubt they’ll be good in the near future. Stanford has opted for no NIL deals for their athletes. They clearly have other advantages for students, but I respect that decision.

When they were ranked #5 and we beat them at RES it was well after Harbaugh. They had a solid run in the 2000s until about five years ago when the wheels fell off.

Our neighborhood is very close. We all pretty much know each other by name, mutually hang out on occasion, wave to each other, have a phone list for natural disasters or events that might occur. I have always found it unusual to avoid engagement (or even eye contact) with some one we might see almost everyday, but some folks just keep to themselves.

Or neurodivergence …

This:

They might get guys that really are interested in being a student-athlete, but when there are hundreds of thousands of dollars being dangled by other options, it’s hard to weigh the longer-term pros/cons at 18 years of age. Or, it’s those that have been coddled and/or believe they are majoring in football.

I think Stanford still focuses on the Olympic sports and really can’t keep up with the revenue-generating/revenue-sharing sports in the current environment.

Kids go to Stanford for future earnings. Why not also get it now.
