Rising's injury worse than everyone thought

Yep - some strong advocates that Whit owes us a play by play explanation of his thought process and that it is clear we should have gone to the transfer portal back in the spring, that 2 4* inexperienced qbs were useless and a top transfer would have come here. Give me a break. It’s idiotic (and glad Whit addressed that they didn’t go to the portal because no one would come with Cam’s situation). Basically some are saying either Cam lied, Whit lied, or Whit was delusional.

To me the ultimate facts are first, that both Cam and Whit have taken us to two straight Rose Bowls and PAC12 conference championships. Second, Cam got hurt because he is a warrior. Third, and most important, Whit has built our program to heights that were unimaginable when he joined Utedom under Ronnie Mac. People need to remember those stunning realities.

Can you say Charlie Brewer ?

Exactly. Or Bentley …

The mind blowing thing is there are “fans” out there, primarily in the FB groups, who regularly say things like, “Utah won’t be big time until [fill in the blank with some idiotic idea].” When challenged they claim the challenger is just settling for mediocrity. The facts of Utah’s success, and respect on a national level, I’d suggest we’re overrated in the polls right now because of our stellar rep and past performance, are lost on these twits.

If we somehow, someway three-peat, Whitt will win Coach of the Year - AGAIN!

If we win the Conference Championship again, it will be a feat of coaching none of us will have seen before, or will likely ever see again. Winning through silly sideshow stuff is one thing. Winning with your #2’s and #3’s because the starters are on the shelf injured - with a P5 schedule, that is something rarely if ever done. For those guys over at the hub losing their minds, they need to chill out.

Whoever starts for us at QB will play their hearts out. Whoever we find to play RB will also do the same. Hopefully we get Maea back. Losing the QB of the line is a massive kick in the teeth. Kump has played well, but you can tell he can’t read defensive shifts the way Maea can. That said, he’s learning and getting better.

We don’t need to start burning down the house because we lost a game on the road in Corvallis. We did the best we could with who we had on the field. Many teams would’ve gotten run out of the stadium fielding their #2’s and #3’s. It wasn’t all that long ago we were one of those teams.

Not anymore.

And it’s not like the Beavers are a bunch of doorknobs. They’re a good team.

Totally agree here. You may even argue it’s qbs #3 and #4 (depending on how you treat Rose getting injured and behind in reps and development). You may argue RB is an even bigger issue with Jackson plagued by ‘minor’ injuries so playing/not playing carousel and Bernard (maybe our most versatile offensive player) hurt off the field. Maea would help solidify the line, call blocking, and shift people back to a more natural position at guard and tackle. On top of all that, the play calling has been lacking, but also understandable to try to run the clock and play ‘our’ style to just get through and hopefully eek out a win. Didn’t work @ Corvallis against a good team, but we lost to them 2 years ago there as well. 4-1 is amazing. Most thought we’d have at least 2 losses to this point (either UF and/or Baylor + UCLA or @ OSU). Yes, it’s been ugly. But let’s see what Cal game brings and if we can have a couple breaks go our way instead of against with this long list of injured players that could almost form a 1st team by themselves.

Plus, being without another 15 starters/key players. It’s been a terrible season for injuries. Kyle said he’s never had a season like this.
Had we been at full strength at OSU, we might have been more competitive, even with our 4th string QB.

Seriously…what the hell?? This is insane.

Oh, no. That poor kid. He’s had a rough run since he got here.

So, we are down to Glover, who has never broken a tackle, and Vincent, who is not a P5-level featured back by any means.

Nope, Vincent is out (early OSU) and according to Whit, not looking good

Rose at QB and Nate Johnson RB??

Vaki, our leading tackler, had thay wildcat carry last game for 6 yards …

Just throwing this out there, is it time to look into the strength and conditioning program? The level of injuries is incomprehensible, I may be totally off base but it’s insane !

They said they’ve looked into ‘everything’, but I agree. Flexibility? Nutrition? Style of lifting? How they tape up? Some are freak injuries (lacerated liver). They did aay fall camp was more physical because they came out soft against UF the year before, but it just continues. There’s going to be some injuries during the course of a year, but this many? No. Some players have already had injuries or maybe are just finally seeing wear and tear over the years, but wow, just crazy the luck.

Doug Elisaia has been the strength and conditioning director for a long time and there haven’t been this many injuries before under his leadership. I can’t imagine anything has changed that would lead to more injuries this year as a result of the conditioning program. Sometimes the injury bug just hits. :person_shrugging:

We used to see the injury bug a lot back in the day due to the “rug” we played on. Astroturf was some brutal stuff on the body. Sport turf is far less impactful to the body, but the NFLPA are pushing to ban it as a surface in NFL stadiums. They want natural turf.

The bottom line is football is a full contract sport and people get injured playing it. This year we’ve seen a biting of the injury bug like nothing this team or coaches have ever experienced. For many programs, getting bit to this level would’ve “ended” their season. They would be simply playing out the string hoping no one else ended up on the shelf and looking towards next season. We haven’t been relegated to that.

Next man up. Next game up. GO UTES!!!
