Legendary guitarist Steve Cropper .
Frank Gehry, arguable the greatest living architect, passed away today at 96. We have a great example of his work up here in Seattle, the MOPOP building, and I just saw one of his other notable works, the Walt Disney Concert Hall when I was down in Los Angeles this week. Big loss for humanity!
Wow, Rob Reiner and his wife found dead today in their home.
This one really hurts. From “Meathead” to Spinal Tap to everything else he did, he gave us the gift of laughter.
RIP Rob.
Sounds like it’s a murder investigation. It makes me sick to think my first reaction was it could be a Trumper he pissed off, but it was.
Seeing some reports that Reiner’s son is the suspect.
Ugh. This one is a real gut punch.
Wow! ![]()
Meathead was a critical character in a fascinating and revolutionary (for the day) TV look at the divisive and uncomfortable social/generational divide of that time.
My father and I could both watch the program, laugh (not necessarily at the same time), and (occasionally) have a civil conversation about our differing points of view afterward.
This was a well written piece about Rob.
Reporting now is that they were murdered by their son, Nick. Just awful.
All in the Family was genius for navigating tough social issues via humor.
I was a kid and just along for the laughs, but we had plenty of social issues.
Leave the ■■■■■■■ politics out of this tragedy. FWIW his son was arrested over this.
Let’s just say Mr Trump should learn better when to keep his yap shut. There are others who make a living disagreeing with anything and everything he says or does. Neither should be involved with lamenting the death of someone who added much enjoyment to peoples lives.
I don’t care for Rob’s politics, but I think he made some extremely great films and was extremely funny in All in the Family. I wish his son had used the help that was offered. In the end all we end up with a tragedy that would make the Ancient Greeks jealous.
I posted that before that was known.
You jumped to a conclusion that had zero basis in fact, before anything was said about the perpetrator.
Anthony Geary (born in humble Coalville, Utah). In the early 80s Utah Students used to watch General Hospital in the Union building when Luke & Laura was a huge story.
I was living in the dorms at Weber State in 1981 when that enormous Ice Princess Spy THriller plotline was going on. We’d often end up missing classes because we didnt want to miss anything.
I read it more as an observation on where we unfortunately are as a society, i.e., that it’s the first thing that comes to one’s mind. HoopUte’s not alone on that. That said, thanks for the reminder to keep non-politics threads free of politics. I know many of us need it sometimes.
No. I made the point that it was sad that it even crossed my mind. You jumped to a conclusion.
