Pricing for season football tickets

Saw this on Facebook. Has anybody else had this experience? If it’s true, the athletic department might think about where they’re pricing tickets. I’ve had season tickets for a number of years, and my circumstances make it difficult for me to go to every game. I end up trying to sell tickets for some games or simply giving them away. It might make a lot of sense for me just to go to the secondary market for any game that I really want to go to.

Been a Fan for 45 years, season ticket holder for about 5 years. Checking prices on ticket master and the secondary prices are a little lower than season ticket prices. So my question is, do any of you go to every game, but don’t have season tickets? My son wants the flexibility of seeing the weather, quality of team, quality of opponent, then purchasing the correct number of tickets, the day before the game. Him and I are interested in going to every game, but the women in our lives change their interest level depending on game time, temperature and opponent.

I have had season tickets for almost 20 years. My son graduated from the U in 2020 and has tried to go to a few games each season with me. The secondary market is very hit or miss. This season’s opponents have brought much lower prices than you might otherwise see except for Texas Tech and ASU. If you don’t care where you sit and you can’t make every game it could make sense to give up season tickets. But there will be seasons where the prices will be very high, I expect next year TDS tickets will cover most of the cost for season ticket holders looking to cover their whole season with one game.

I think the biggest driver is season ticket retention / wait list - I’m sure the AD doesn’t pay attention to the aftermarket if they sell out season tickets every year either via retention or wait list…

Secondary prices are unreliable as a measure of season ticket demand as they can fluctuate wildly in any particular season. The OP quote about prices being cheaper than season tickets is likely recency bias as that has not been the case for the most part over the past 5 years or so.

We are celebrating 40 years as season ticket holders. After a hiatus of several years, we moved back to SLC in 86 and bought season tickets. In addition to the two my wife and I use, I purchased two NEZ season tickets that my kids could use. Due to work conflicts, my kids have not really used those seats much and I have had a difficult time selling them on KSL. I have decided to not renew the NEZ seats next year and am considering not renewing our tickets. Price is a factor, NIL, Portal, lack of interest in opponents and games starting after 7:00 pm are all factors.
