On the CCG thread, @UtahFanSir posted PFF Pac-12 POY and teams that are based on ‘grades’ using certain statistics and analysis. As we await official awards from the conference, here are some of the players of the week and watchlists:
Some notes:
- Rising is 2-time offensive player of the week. Tavion once (but led the conference in TD and had 2 games with 4TD, 1 with 3TD). Rachaad White (ASU) and BJ Baylor were also 2-time weekly winners and are in the running for OPOY I would think. QBs usually get the nod, but I don’t think any one stood out in particular (Rising did a great job and a 17-3 TD-INT ratio is great, but you’d think the top Pac-12 QB would be a national leader). So I think a RB might get OPOY but my guess is they’ll give it to Anthony Brown (QB, ORE).
- Devin Lloyd was POW 3 times. Kayvon twice (also DL player of week the same weeks). I think DPOY has to be one of these 2. Of course, I’m biased and Lloyd was top 5, 3, or even 1 in many stats (tackles, TFL, sacks, INT, …)
- Interesting that although Tafua led the conference in sacks, he was never DL player of the week (Fillinger and Tafuna were though)
- I’d be shocked if Covey wasn’t ST POY. Partially a lifetime award as well.
- Noah Sewell (Oregon) is a possibility for FR of the year but Tanner McKee (Stanford) will probably get it being their QB all year. Dart only played meaningful minutes in 5 games
