Pac 12 to expand into Southern California and Texas?

Boise Fans are gonna be upset. Not to mention another school in your state that probably deserved it. Y’all are just scared of the Aggies.

Not surprised by either school

Seems like it makes sense in the streaming age.

Agreed. Although if you read some of that twitter feed, you’d think SMU was buried somewhere in the backwoods of Hickville.

Aka the state of Texas (excluding parts of Austin)?

Dallas #5 Media Market vs Austin #36 I believe.

SMU is one of my alma maters. It’s got a good money base. Will there be a traveling partner? Houston?

Oh, you and I know DFW is a big media market; but the yahoos in that twitter thread just had me rolling my eyes.

Does SMU deliver the Dallas/FW market?

No. Probably OU and UT.

Pony Exce$$ sits in the media market, but is not a team that will bring a lot of eyeballs to watch them play.

Honestly SDSU could be given a ditto, though their athletics programs have generally been more competitive.

Not a media specialist, but I don’t know how either equates into a media rights package that would give the per school payouts a lift.

These days, not sure UCLA brings many eyeballs in LA, either.

Does Fordham or NYU bring the New York City market? Hehe

Nope. But the Big 10 added Rutgers for some reason.

Both are long plays on attracting lots of eyeballs, though the potential is there.

More defensive moves to keep a foothold in SoCal and establish one in Texas, IMO, but getting back to 12 is better than the perception of circling the wagons and trying to keep the rest of the band together at 10.

If there’s any kind of bump on media numbers this is a win. From a Utah recruiting perspective this absolutely helps, let kids play in front of the hometown, though recently our recruiting has expanded geographically way outside the conference footprint.

Expanded playoff helps allow a long bet to play out.

SDSU & SMU………?

Alcoholics & the semi-wealthy. Could be worse.

FTFO!

Yep. It could be Southern Cal and UCLA.

San Diego State, SMU, Houston and San Jose State. Grab SMU and Houston before the Big 12 does.

And while the PAC 12 commissioner is actually doing work, pull the plug on the PAC 12 Network and go with Prime Video pay per view. I see lots of Mountain West Conference games on the CBS Sports Network or ESPN while Pac-12 teams play in total obscurity.

We actually agree!

I don’t hate the SDSU move at all. Growing up we always had kids from the IE play for SDSU. SMU’s campus is kind of cool and the W Presidential Library is really cool. Not to mention a good option for Pac 12 title game in Jerry’s World.
