How the rebuilt Pac-12 looks to be ‘in a tier of its own’

espn.com article

Two years earlier, [Pac-12 commissioner Tessa] Gould had asked roughly 30 employees to remain with the conference. She could not promise them the league – or their jobs – would still exist much longer, but they stayed anyway.

Now, gathered for a two-day staff meeting, Gould stood in front of the people who had helped carry the Pac-12 through its darkest period. The conference had preserved its assets, assembled a new membership and begun expanding its workforce again. Soon, athletes would wear the new Pac-12 logo and compete for Pac-12 championships.

Remember, “in the PAC, we can count” when it went from 10 to 12? I guess the PAC-12 is really the PAC-9, but this revamped conference can’t count.

The remaining MWC schools should have merged with the PAC-12 to remain relevant in college football.

I mean, they can still count better than the Big 10 and Big 12 can.

hey they would have to go after B1G and BigXII first for being wayyy out of line, and the first one is by far the worst offender.

I am excited to see what happens with the Mountain West. They have added North Dakota State and Northern Illinois.

I do wish that New Mexico had moved to the Pac. Watching basketball from that stadium is special.

That logo still reminds me of Doctor Who.

Just visited Utah State with my son for a college visit. USU logo with PAC-12 logo on billboards, was, well, just weird. PAC-State-Nation (Gonzaga only non-State, but also non-football).

Yeah I realize the original logo was a little less compact for those people who are so obsessive about stuff but it definitely was a far better logo than this reductionist b******* nightmare. I mean if you turn the thing on his side it becomes the logo for 3M in a new and fancy version.

And while they had to do something to step away from the original pac-12 logo, they did do a decent job of trying to recapture both ocean and mountain concept.

I respect your opinions.

I wonder if USU fans celebrated their “PACmas” in the same way Utah fans did during those glorious old days of yore?

I was slightly disturbed when they added Gonzaga without also requesting that they change the school name.

It is at times like this that I remembered they’re actually is a Texas state university, but you never really hear about it compared to Texas at Austin Texas El Paso Texas Rio grande valley, Texas San Antonio, Texas a&m. Most of the Southern States where the word state is involved in the name are part of the BCU group coming back Texas is a rare exception.

Now part of the issue is it sits in the relatively smaller city of San Marcos, in between San Antonio and Austin.. easy to get overlooked like that
