Not-so-prime-time, but apparently a decent rival to Gameday:
All these years later and I’m still PTSD scarred by the legendary TCU debacle after gameday came.

Me too. And the Oregon gameday game in 2023 wasn’t much better.
I hate when these chuckle heads show up.
Then again I never liked the circus, either.
The early kickoff will give me an afternoon to get stuff done, too.
This article is saying the same thing as the one on the other thread: we got the noon EST start time, but we’re not locked in as the venue for the “Big Noon Kickoff” show. That gets annnounced later. Should get it though.
How does the Kickoff show work? With GameDay, fans arrive hours early to get best places and show goes a few hours (and as I’ve noted at times, they use up a lot of energy before the game starts).
I remember freezing my ■■■ off in 2004 when Gameday showed up in early morning for that final game that guaranteed a Fiesta Bowl berth, with people in sombreros and whipping tortillas around like frisbees. And urban getting up on the stage and LYING TO OUR FACES about having no plans to go anywhere. - 2 weeks later the bomb dropped.
that snake in the grass
In the wise words of an animated snowman, let it go. If that’s what you remember about that day, then it’s occupying space in your mind rent-free. All I remember is the cold, the camaraderie, pancakes with new friends at the Village Inn, being on the field and wild celebration - that stuff.
Sadly that Village Inn is gone as of a few years ago.
That land is owned by the U now. Its going to become an off campus something or other; I dont think housing.
Maybe parking?
Sorry, if you’ve got kids up on campus right now this and the ‘prime time scheduling’ is THE issue.
What the hell is wrong with you? One should never forget bald-faced lying and betrayal of trust. I didnt say it controlled my life - rather it served as a powerful example of corruption in Football, even back that far.
Don’t ever tell ANYONE to forget lying and betrayal - especially when the offender has never shown the slightest bit of remorse. Trying to ignore those things just empowerss that behavior further.
Hope you’re not a Trump supporter.
Urb exiting on a UF plane with a Brinks truck in tow was not a surprise. Let’s face it, it was a lot of money and a high profile school in a high profile conference. It was a place where the door was wide open for getting an opportunity to coach for a national championship. It doesn’t justify the lies, but the facts of the opportunity differences can’t be ignored either.
I get your reaction to Urb’s lie @Kosh, your path to this discussion today went through a different place where oaths and promises carry a special meaning; and when one breaks one, the affects can be catastrophic. You come from a path where those who break oaths and promises are removed and receive a special kind of punishment, up to and including prison. As one who also walked that path, I understand it. That said, I know there are very damned few civilians who share our lens. Add to it the strange anomaly that Utah and BYU have never really experienced the same coaching carousel that many P4 Universities have seen and you have a situation set up for a more virulent kind of reaction to a HC walking away for perceived “Greener Pastures.”
I didn’t like it either, but it was what it was, and we’ve been better off for it.
Now let’s beat those drunk, battery throwing cowpunchers and get ready for conference play.
GO UTES!!!
Urban Meyer just wanted a place to play catch with his son.
leave the politics out of it.
There is still one down on State Street thankfully. But the one by the U was host for many a late night nosh on Friday nights before games.
I would go there on Saturday mornings after spending the night at the tailgate lot.
Anyone remember John’s Place in Midvale in 72nd? I don’t know how much negative revenue from free coffee refills my group of late nighters caused along with several packs of cigarettes along the way…
OH HELL YEAH. I mean, after seeing the fatal corruption of both Florida and Ohio State under his watch, I’m among lord knows how many Ute faithful who are glad for the boost, but relieved as all hell that he got out of here before he could harm OUR program. I mean, I can think of 2 occurrences of things that got the NCAA in a twit: the very small block spot (not even a stain) from the minor infractions from Majerus, and thee far more recent disturbing issue with the Gymnastics Coach being forced out for cause.
Aside from those cases, this school has about as sterling a reputation as I can remember (or am aware of) in COllegiate Sports.
